That way he has a reserved post for each individual step as he does them so you won't have to search the thread to find them. XLNT idea.

An interesting project. I'd like to see you throw some low level match ammo at least into the mix, Eley Target or Wolf MT or SK Std+. The ammo shouldn't be a variable, and bulk ammo is. Hope you plan to shoot 20 or so rounds of the next ammo through before you shoot groups to properly season the barrel.

The average of the groups of each type of ammo will eliminate the need for that. After all he is testing whether the standard mods actually make the rifle more accurate. That should show up whether bulk or match ammo.

Thanks Mac, that's exactly what I was thinking! One thing I missed, I'm going to have to get a third trigger group (I have one) because once I mod the trigger group, I'm not going to 'un-mod' it for further testing!

WELCOME TO RFC! As has been mentioned, I reserved a bunch of posts so I could keep the information organized. After all this is a test to show what makes the most change and so I kind of need to keep things in order. You will notice I have already modified every post I have made as I add information. Thanks for asking and welcome abroad!

I'm very interested in your results.

I've recommend these steps before anything more expensive.

Get these thing - you need them anyway
Liquid Wrench dry lube for receiver
SuperLube - for hammer sear
CLP - to clean and lube

Get this from KIDD - you want them
Bolt buffer
Quick release
Springs - I use the lightest

That is the least expensive and best things to do for now.

Tim- THANKS!!!! I've been waiting to see you do this thread and think its a great idea!!! When it's all finished I think Pappy should make it a sticky. Not enough people taking the time to do scientific before and after mods testing.

Your financial and time investment is much appreciated!!!

Regards,

A very general rule of thumb among shooters who use match ammo is to shoot 1 round per inch of barrel of the ammo you're going to test before you shoot for groups. Some clean the barrel then season it, some shoot the old lube out with the new. I've watched the POI move then stabilize as the lube from the new ammo replaces the old. If I misunderstand your test protocol ignore this post.

Are you going to test each change alone then start to combine them?

How do you plan to test each change individually? If you get the bolt done first you test it with the rest of the gun stock, obviously. Then say you get the barrel Que'd. Now you can only test the Que'd barrel with a worked bolt, not the original stock bolt. Are you going to interchange un-modded parts between the 2 guns? Or stack the mods up one at at time and test ?
