Bearcat vs the buffer

After picking up a New Vaquero for my birthday, I started to wonder if my Bearcat could have a similar highly polished finish. So 400 grit sandpaper in hand and two new buffing wheels on my grinder, I spent the better part of a day turning brushed stainless into a mirror shine. Got a little carried away and polished the front sight too much so it made a nice mirror on sunny days-easily corrected with a little black paint.

Here are the results , now contemplating adding a set of stag grips so it matches the Vaquero, but the stock grips were some of the better looking ones I've seen, hence my hesitation.

Here is it's big brother with a set of stag grips...

Look on the Ruger Forum in the stainless ejector housing thread. We have pictures! I am sure you will want one of them!
(Our pictures are not as good as yours but you will get the idea)

I had to join just to post about this beautifully buffed bearcat. Now it made me pull the trigger and send mine to Clements Custom for sights, roll marks removed, bead blasting and a few other options. Will post photos on 4 months. For the time being you can look at others he has done. http://www.clementscustomguns.com

How did it look brushed with the 400 grit?

It was still had a brushed look to it with the 400 grain, smoother but not a mirror shine. I could have gone to Flitz and a rag to get a good mirror shine at that point, but it would have required quite a bit of elbow grease and time.

The buffer made it a much easier job and really wasn't a lot of money. I already had the grinder (Ryobi), but it was ~$35 at Home Depot a few years back and buffing wheels were $7 a piece, plus $5 for stainless buffing compound, so $54 total. Easily made up for the hours that I saved, plus I can polish other firearms and parts down the road. I've already done some spot components on several firearms and I think I'm going to do up my entire 617 next.

Here are a few more pics for your enjoyment. I've polished and installed the EWK stainless steel ejection rod cover, which looks much better than the stock aluminum one. I have a matching fixed sight Single Six waiting at the dealer for me, so the adjustable sight one pictured is up for local sale in the classifieds.
