a long time ago(1948) i bought .22lr from sears in san antonio, tx, east at 5 corners.
it was a bus ride down.
times are different.
still buy .22lr, but from walmart.
in san antonio - pochernicks and barbaras were downtown, they had everything.
now nagels north- but they are not in the same league ~ hamburger filppers.

Wow !!

What a gift fellas.

I had a big smile, and a tear looking at all the boxes. You have brought back some fond memories of times I have forgotten about.. And people I havent seen in a long time.. Like Dad and Grampa..

Thanks

You're welcome. When I started this, I just thought it would be neat to show some of the old boxes. I never realized that it would touch on so many emotions and bring back so many fond memories. Glad to provide a bit of the past for everyone.

a business proposition

seriously put on the table for discussion )maybe we need a new thread)

1. make 3 or 4 pics of each box, a 30 drgree side view like above was nice, easy to read and see more than stragiht on, but straight on is the conventional display mode

2. get wal mart to make a cd, they catoragize them in folders of (what 20 each or so)

3. them get them all labelled with year and manufacture and some brief comments

4. then print them off on cds with a nice laberl for about $5 each your cost,

5. make up 100 and charge 10 each plus 3 for shipping (unlikely 13)

I would take 20 copies for $220 including shipping,

we could pay someone $1 per box to write the description and year and stuff,

I am sure it would take 100 hours to do but the return on investment would be Ok and the pride would be neat, (priceless no well worth it)

if you think the reactions here are something there is a big big world out there to show this stuff off

I am saddened I live in canada to get you my stuff is a nightmare,

PM me your address and i will send a few pics of mine for you to review and post, then you will see what I mean

thanks jeff

PS I would send you $500 usa dollars to start the project if you needed it

(no dont send the refund to dubui as this is not a scam )

I wonder if there is any copyright on the Tony Dunn book? It would be nice to take the Dunn book and convert it to color pictures and put it on CD. It would be hard to carry around the cartridge show.

It could be done in sections, also. The hard part would be finding examples of all the needed boxes to take photo's of. What you have seen posted here is only a drop in the bucket.

If it was to be done it should be done right showing all sides, inside flaps and rounds for the collectors and could do a general reference version for the general public showing only some of the more common brands.

Security would be an issue. You would have to make the disks copy proof if you want to recoup any of the cost.

Sounding more a like a full time job...

You are probably right...my collection is not a large one by any means. It would be nice to have the Dunn book on CD. All I have is a scanned copy of it...sure would like one of the originals.

Jeff, that is a very generous offer, thank you. IF I even considered doing something like that, I would not accept money from anyone until the project was done and ready for sale.

IHMSA 80x80,
Wow! You have quite a collection! Thank you for sharing.

Here's a rare box of Winchester ammunition manufactured for the Junior Rifle Corps. According to some information I have, this box was never for sale over the counter. The only way to get this box was to buy the Junior Rifle Corps .22 Rifle Set, which was very expensive at the time. Four boxes were included with the set. This box dates sometime between 1917 and 1925.

One of these boxes sold earlier this year at auction for $5,600!

I copied this pic from the internet.

If I'm not mistaken that was sold at one of this company's auctions.
