I waa able to put 100 rounds through the 722 yesterday. Went much better then before! Most goups within the 1 moa guarantee. It actually shoots the cci better then the SK match now which is a pleasent surprise. Had a few groups where 4 were in the same hole then a flier opened it up but I think that's on me as im still getting used to shooting a bolt gun coming from 10/22s. I tuned the trigger today and think that will help alot as well. There was alot of overtravel in the trigger from the factory and the weight was higher then I like

That sounds better. Most of our Varmints will shoot half an inch @ 50 yds and several less than that.

Thats what im thinking. I shot 20 5 round groups this afternoon and it averaged .7 center to center. Alot of good groups but some over 1 inch that raised the average alot. I'm sure it can do better so im ordering several more types of ammo to see what it likes. What ammo do you all find shoots well in yours?

Ive also found it to be very hold sensative which is not helping me at all as my other rifles are not so im not as consistant as I should be. Any way to lessen the sensativity that you know of?

My cataract surgery is scheduled for the latter part of Aug. I can't wait to get back shooting 22's. I just picked up a Dakota 22 l.r. from my best friend and my first Range trip was disappointing. I shot this rifle back 26 years ago so I know what it can do. I tried shooting it left handed and did manage one group that ran .5 and several that were close, it was still wearing the 4X Leupold he put on it back in 92. Good luck with your surgery.

I shot some more yesterday and the rifle is defintly settling in. Closer to .5 average at 50 yards. I played with the trigger some more last night and added a very thin shim under the sear spring then made adjustments via the screws and was able to get it under a pound with it still passing all the safety tests. I can not engage the safety however so thats what i will be working to solve next. I recall seeing where someone had been able to modify the safety to work before but cannot find the thread.

It's been a while but I made my early 722 trigger two stage. If you take up too much pre travel on the trigger you lose the function of the safety. If I remember correctly a small section of bic lighter spring was added beneath the pre travel screw....I think. Trial and error rewarded me with a trigger that is better than my record triggers in my airguns. I be honest my 722V shot amazingly well right out of the box with only a good cleaning and a fat reticle BSA Sweet 22 scope.
I understand the Gen II action has some improvements over the earlier models but I can't see anything more than a few idiocracys with the first models. Mine just makes me smile.

Hmm i may have to look into that, I like a 2 stage trigger but a light single is nice as well. Those rekord triggers are hard to beat! I have 2 airguns with them.

I took the trigger apart yesterday to look into the 2 stage idea and see how I could get the safety to function with the rear engagement lower then factory.

As far as adding a spring to make it 2 stage I see no way to do it on this new style trigger without modifying the trigger alot. It is sitting at half a pound or so now so thats ok. It made my kidd single stage in my 10/22 feel crazy heavy after shooting the 722.

I'm pretty sure I could easily modify the trigger itself where the safety drops in front of it to allow it to engage. May call KSA Monday and see if I can purchase another trigger to work on.

My trigger is the Gen I. I understand the newer 722s are different in many ways but as good as mine shoots I'm perfectly happy with it.
