okay all, posted this in the ammo forum, but dont think it is an ammo prob.

in the last 2 - 3 shooting sessions started having a failure to load the 2nd
and every round, and is happening with TWO guns. seems like the bolt is "skimming" over the nxt round in the mag and not picking it up. the mags are okay as they work in a 3rd gun. am eagles and blazers were used and the
same prob, but work okay in the 3rd gun. tried diff combos of springs, same prob. guide rods are polished, as is the inside of the rcvr and the bolts. switched to mini mags and was okay.

mags "lock" up and drop normally. *chaser* sugg'd bbl droop, but am using
sporter bbls with a p-pad up front, and dont think that is the prob.

vee bolts are snug and am torquing the TD screw to 28 #'s as usual.

the confusing part is, this is happening with two diff guns. mags, ammo all work okay in another gun.

im stumped, LOL,

any ideas?? besides start swapping parts with the "3rd" gun?

thanks all,

rico....

Ricco had the exact same thing happen to a couple of mine.Wouldn't work in one but did in the other two.I tightened up the sprind about two complete turns in the mag.Problem solved.Don't know if you've ever done that, but you need three hands to do it.Slow

slow,

honestly, did not re-wind the mags. didn't think it was the prob. wuz
working on both guns a while ago and just did some testing. one gun
still FTFeed the second shot and happened once out of 10 rounds. not
quite what i was hoping for.

funny thing is if i manually cycle the bolt, the shell will chamber.

"sharpied" the rcvr and the bolt and sanded a bit where the ink came off
but i think some of that is normal. changed back to factory hammer
springs, and on one, used a mag recoil spring.

still not satisfied, but 90% functional now. one is still "stoving" once in a
while and will work on the re-coil spring, funny, that one has a smoother
cycling action. one receiver is new, as is the TGroup. ha ha, even went
back to the factory trigger re-set spring and plunger on one gun.

will keep at it, but my fingers are really sore from re-installing the cocking
handle and bolt about a zillion times.

am still in the dark as to why the FTLoad after the 1st shot. hope i'm wrong
but have a "stinkin" hunch that in my endeavers to make the action cycle
like silk, i may have removed TOO much material from the bolt and the rcvr
on one gun, the one that still feels a bit "gritty" and is the one i bought
2nd hand here on the FS forum a while back. oh well, can live with the
"grit", but NOT un-reliability. takes away the fun of a semi.

rico....

I had something like this happen to mine. I took it apart, stoned the hammer, cleaned everything and put it back together. I had all kinds of feeding and ejection problems that I never had before. I took it back apart and oiled the guide rod and hammer bushings and it was back to normal. Sometimes a bit of oil helps. Worth a try anyways.

wanna thank all for the hints and tips.

sometimes it is hard to trouble shoot without having the gun in your lap

had a bare bolt that i thought was bad, but re-assembled the FP, xtracter,
fired 5 rounds and seems to be okay now. still a bit "gritty", but can live
with that vs being un-reliable,

BTW,

anyone have a prob with the ejector sitting TOO high in the TG and
forcing the bolt to ride a bit too high where the bolt passes over the
nxt round in the mag?

thanks,

rico....

For how easy it is to do, I would take your mags apart, clean and lube, and reinstall to proper tension.

You'd be amazed but a little bit of a hang up can really keep the next round from being up enough to get caught by the bolt returning to battery.

Atleast rule it out.

you could well be onto the problem there ricco...it could be the height, or it may be not seated to the bottom of it's slot in the tgroup...

pull that puppy out, and see how it runs for ya!

thanks, cletus,

did remove it and same-same.

dont think all 5 mags are not functioning right as they work in another gun.

will keep at it, but i think it may have something to do with the bolt itself,
but when cycling the first round, it will chamber. subsequent rounds wont.
tried changing hammer / spring, guide spring and everything else i could think
of, same prob. this is a stumper, LOL, but very frustrating.

will try changing the bolt with a "good" one.

rico....
