What was the style before microgroove? I have seen some info that says it didn't start until the early 50's. Mine in not stamped with a micro groove lable. I think it's a 1950. Anyone have recommendations for velocity or lead vs copper jacketed?

Ballard. It's deeper with fewer grooves. If it's a 1950, shoot whatever you like.

Thanks. I was asking about the kind of ammo more from an accuracy standpoint. I figured that there was no reason it would fail to function with any .22. I know that a HV will destabilize as it slows past the sound barrier causing it to wobble. As far a lead vs jacketed, I was just curious. Just trying to get some DOPE and not reinvent the wheel.

I'm not aware of any jacketed 22RF ammo. Could you be more precise in your question?

Jacket may not be true, you are right.I am not currently looking at my ammo stock, but I could havesworn minimags had some kind of copper something on them. In my pre-coffee brain this morning, I want to say that it was for HV ammo.

22 ammo is either lead or "copper washed" jacketed lead.

Your rifle is like a little kid. You feed it different stuff until you find what it likes and then you stick with it.

Better, really; if your rifle is misbehaving you can put it away and forget about it for a while.

Better yet, send it on out to me, I will instill discipline in it for you and send it back in a few years when it's all grown up.
