Useful CV-19 Information from Johns Hopkins

[NOTE: The original post contained a list of suggestions to protect yourselves from COVID-19 virus. As it turns out, the information I got purported to be from Johns Hopkins University, but in fact was misattributed by the actual (and unknown) author of the post theearlof was kind enough to point this out in Post #15 below.

The Snopes article/analysis that theearlof found is linked to below in that post.

Apologies folks. I posted out of an urge to see you all safe. But we can only do that by relying on accurate information. Hence, I have deleted the text of my original post.

flangster.

Thumbs up

Thanks for the information from a reliable source instead of news media, politicians, and facebookers.

What I like about the list is that it gives reasoned explanations for the advice it contains.

Hunkered down,

If you reduce the detailed explanation here to one sentence anyone can understand:

WASH YOUR HANDS AND DON'T TOUCH YOUR FACE!

And clean all surfaces with a disinfectant regularly. I just did my entire kitchen!

Viruses are not living, but do carry genetic material inside their protein coat, either DNA or RNA, the latter being referred to as retroviruses. The virus enters its host cells using its surface protein(s) to break through the cell membrane. Once inside the cell its genetic material takes over the host cell to manufacture more virus particles. The host cell subsequently undergoes lysis and releases new virus particles. This is a classic parasitic relationship.

As with living parasites, the infection can and often does kill the host, unless the host's immune system or appropriate drug therapy keeps that from happening. All the methods described in flangster's post are valuable ways to neutralize viruses, whether coronavirus or any other, before they get a chance to enter your body.

Be careful to be well.

Doug

Great information flangster. A timeline would have been interesting for degradation or lack of in cold. But, much info presented in the report.

There should be a law against that.

i have a junk 5 cubic foot chest freezer at my hangar that i have fitted with an internal thermostat and a light bulb as a heat source. i used it to keep soda etc. from freezing as i would work there sometimes in the winter. last night it occurred to me to bring it home and set it up in my barn to ''quarantine'' the mail we receive.40 watts would probably keep its temp. 80 deg f. 3 days should do it. the virus is more fragile in a warm dry environment.
some may think this is over the top .i will trust my professional experience . 25 yrs ago aids was a deadly disease with no hope of survival. healthcare predicted at least 20 years before a drug would be developed to stop it. they were right. right out of nursing school i took care of a patient in the last stages of aids. to say i was scared was an understatement. i won't forget.

Thank you for the John Hopkins post. I copied and posted it on another forum.
I live in a small city in AZ. So far we only have 1 or possibly 2 cases. Temps are starting to go up. It will hit 80f today and will be in the 80f range for a while until it goes higher until it eventually get up around 120f. Currently 78f with 14% humidity. I am hoping the virus will die out once the temp gets high enough.
