At my club, we have a little lady that shoots a Savage with a laminated stock and Vortex Diamondback scope, that is very tough to beat. She and her husband won the rifle at a function of some sort. It looks like it has a zillion rounds through it, they shoot regularly. I wish you luck with your pursuit, I`m doing the same thing.
Thanks , best score so far has been a 249-?X . I've shot with my CZ Varmint and a Custom 10/22 . 25 yards is plenty enough of a challenge for me.
I feel trying to do it with a semi-auto is doubly tough .
Good luck with your efforts . Kirby

Tere are shooters trying for 250 at 50 yards.

A shooter at our range once did 249 and I did 244 at 50 but not lately and NOT w/ a 10/22..

II once did 250 19x at 25 yrds as did the fellow next to me. I thought-IO can beat him and did another 250-19x. We left it at a tye.

Coulpe weeks ago I shot 250 at 50 w/ the IBS rimfire target. The match director compliamented all shooters. I later compared my 250 to a
USBR target and it might have made 243 or so.

Two of us shooters made 500-27 x on two targets (IBS). I had a better run of x's and was the winner according to their tie breaking rule.

I shot a couple of cards today with one of my 10/22's. This one has a 16" Fluted GM barrel . Thought I'd see if a bull barrel would shoot better than my heavy tapered. Didn't happen .
Shot a 238-6X using SK+ , and a 236-5X using CCI SV . It was a little windy today and I blame the wind for some of the 8's that were shot . I didn't think the wind would mattter that much @ 25 yards , but it does .
After a couple shots got blown off , I started trying to wait out the wind and just when the wind would ease up , my brother would start talking about squirrels with orange dots on them . He thought he was being funny . He has no idea what a good score means to me . He's happy plinking or shooting my steel discs at 100 yards when I set them up after I'm finished .
Hmmm , maybe he's trying to get me frustrated with shooting the Green Monster , so I'll setup the steel .
Either way I need to learn to ignore him . How old is he you say ? He'll be 70 his birthday this year . Not exactly a kid . Haha .
I can't get mad at him , he goes to the range with me each week and has always been my best bud . I can't get him to shoot for score , he says he shakes too much .
Enough rambling . Maybe I'll get that 250 next week . It's all about the journey anyway. Kirby

Kirby, I just found your Quest for the 250 thread and read the whole thing! keep shooting. I think you'll do it. I have a stock Marlin 7000 that I would like to try this with but I don't know if I could do a 250 with it. Interesting challenge. I may shoot it tomorrow if the rain lets up.

Kirby, I just stumbled onto this because of Squirrelbarks recent comment. I read the entire post too. Great reading especially for me as I'm just starting the same quest. Thanks for posting this. I'm rooting for you. Me, I'm not convinced I have a 250 in me but I'm going to enjoy learning and trying. The bottom line for me is I can shoot better now than I could 3 months ago and that in itself makes me pretty darn satisfied.

I'd really love to do it with a 10/22 I've put together . Kirby

The Green Monster

Kirby, I shot a 250 about a month ago, but not since. It seems like I`m stuck on 247 or 248 with about a dozen X`s. I can tell that getting those last few points on a consistent basis is not going to be easy. I am confident in my rifle and sometimes when I drop a point, I don`t feel like it was me, (not always). I know that shooting a sporter class rifle makes it more of a challenge, but am determined to overcome that. I would like to be able to score consistently 248 or 49, with a 250 once in a while to keep me trying, kind of like fishing. I know that you`re doing the same thing and wish you luck. D

Kirby, Sparked by your Quest, I shot my Marlin 7000's today. I had to rezero both of them with SK Magazine for the Monster. After about 30 shots with one and rezeroing the other I came to the reluctant conclusion that the scopes I have on them now would make Green Monster hunting pretty difficult. I have one of them set up with a Bushnell A22 3.5-10X36AO with a Green Varmint Light for my on and off night-time war with raccoon, armadillos and possums. It's not an every night thing but usually once or twice every couple of months. So I just shot it with the Green light on top of the scope. (This Image is Too Large to Be Displayed Within the Post. I have shot 240's with these guns before, but if I were to have any hope of a 250 now with these rifles, I would need to rescope with some better glass. Either that or get some better eyesight. The triggers are great for raccoons, but not so much for Green Monsters--not like my CZ's.

I shot a 242-6X today . The wind was terrible , 10-20 . I won't be posting pics of my targets unless I shoot at least a 248 .
But I though I'd post a pic of the rifle I used today. One of my SuperStocks, A DSP with a 17" GM HT , VQ Target trigger , with a home honed hammer that breaks barely under three pounds . Scope is a Tasco Varmint 6-24x42 mildot. Ammo was SK+ , no excuses except the wind and that gray matter between my ears . Kirby

I buy mine from American Target . You have to call them to place an order . Or google USBR target and buy then directly from USBR . Kirby

EDIt: just take a look here .

If it is the USBR target, opr many others, just call Amer Target, they will take your numbers and 250 targets will be on your back/front porch in about 4 days, maybe less. The A23/5 target is great at 50 yards w/ IRON sights. they are about the same price. Website will tell all.

Cost about $40.

Shot one target today with another DSP that got the new 17" SS HT Green Mountain barrel I just bought .
Put about 60-70 rounds of CCI SV through the barrel , with a pull of the boresnake about every 20 rounds to begin the break in . Then I switched to SK+ and after 10 rounds of seasoning and final adjustments I started shooting for score dropping 3 points on the first two bulls . Guess I should have shot a few more before shooting for score . Third shot was an X .
Ended up with a 238-5X . Not bad for a new barrel . Just like the other heavy taper GM barrels I own , she's going to be a keeper .
I'm going to have to decide whether I'm going to shoot bench , offhand , or just plink . I'm taking too many rifles to the range and I'm not giving each discipline a fair shake . I took four rifles and a Charger today . Way too many to do my best with one . Kirby

Sunday

Hey Kirby,
I just shot one card Sunday with the Anschutz 1712 AV, a 246 12X. A couple of flyers on the right side probably caused by me with too much pressure somewhere. Am using Wolf ME until I feel like I need to upgrade to Center X. Still need to work on my mechanics a bit first. Would post pictures but alas, no computer skills.
