My 1897 limited does not have scope mounting screws. I prefer iron sights anyway.

No Scope

No scope on my 1967, I did switch the factory sights to the skinner peep a few years
back and could not be happier.

I'm almost 64 yo. My 39A, that I bought back in 1977 is scoped. I wear bi focals, and can't see the irons well enough to squirrel hunt, anymore.

No scope on mine. Skinner rear, Lyman globe front and I love the combo. If I ever do scope mine, it'll have no bigger than a 28mm obj bell but possibly one of the 1-4x20's.

Picked up a 1953 39A last week with a 3/4" 4x redfield on top & a missing rear sight. I'll be shooting irons as soon the USPS shows up with my replacement sight.

39A Nope

9422 Nope

9422M Nope

I'm blessed at 55 and 20/20 vision. I have no problem though, with scopes mounted on lever actions if that's what you like or need!

I have a Weaver 2x7 but will replace it with a Lyman 17A front sight and Williams target rear. Just had cataract surgery and now 20/15 out of shooting eye. I can use the peeps again!

No scope 'yet' on the lever's... But the way things are going, I sooner (then later) be at that point in my life...

Which got me thinking, anyone used (or seen) the Conetrol base?

Made in 1978. I bought two of them new - one to put aside for some obscure reason and one to use. This is my 'user' gun. As mentioned in my post above I have a 4 X 81 German Pecar scope on it. I have no idea of the age of the scope but it was given to me by an 81 year old in 1972. He had bought it years before and never took it out of its box. The locking ring is brass so it must be pretty early.

This is a great set up and as accurate a combination as anyone could wish for. I once got 40 rabbits in quick succession on a 25 yard stretch of track on a mountainside with this rifle.

I also shoot the other large caliber lever action rifles as well as I can just go out my door on my property, what in the US is called a ranch and just shoot away - tin cans miscellaneous targets and wild pigs
The Lyman peep sight is NOT on the 39a but is on a .44-40 Colt Pump Action Lightning which is on the same rifle rack peg...actually a rifle I dont like and for sale! I only put the Marlin on the pegs to photograph it as it usually sits in a gun safe!

Hello all
My '76 carries an inexpensive Tasco that was well under $20.00, but it does the job.
Shot a "one hole" with the gun a few years ago, when "the range" was still open. that had to be 2004 or so.
Great gun, and no, it is not for sale.
all the best to all

This guy is dead, so I'm going to vote for him.

Witness:

This is Steve Mcqueen, holding a scoped Marlin 39 from his personal collection.

Quite possibly the coolest guy that ever lived, and he thought a scope was O.K.

Who am I to argue with Steve Mcqueen about what's cool and what's not?

Poll: Is Your 39A Scoped Or Not?

I originally used the iron sights on my 1997 39AS Original Golden, but then fitted a Weaver rail and Hawke 2.0-7.0 'scope as in my club's timed shoot competition I was losing out to those with red-dot sights!
