Back in the 60's I got my Boy Scout marksmanship merit badge with the family's 1959 39a. So I am really attached to that gun.

Like so many other posts have said about putting a scope on 39a.. "That's just wrong!"

I still have that very same 39a and my merit badge. But I do not have the same eyeballs.

Put on a Weaver #90 base (48090) and a 3-9x40 AO only a few months ago so I could enjoy it again after a decades long timeout. Smiles are back and my memories of the gun have not changed one bit.

What is the age limit on getting a Boy Scout marksmanship merit badge?

I hear you Dave. Guys who say that you shouldn't put a scope on a model 39 just want older guys to stop shooting. Problem is, I'm not dead yet. Kudos to you Dave, enjoy that new scope on that old 39!

Back in 2014 when this thread started () I posted that I hoped I would never get so I had to scope my 39A, although it doesn't matter to me if others do so if it keeps them in the game.

I'm 79 now , my Marble's tang sight still works just fine at making the front sight nice and clear, still knocking down the silhouettes just like days of yore.

Picked up a Marlin Model 39A a few weeks back from 1953. I have no plans to scope it.

I have a Hawke Optics red dot on mine, mounted to a weaver rail. Not to everyone's taste, but it works for me.

Yep I scoped my 39a recently. (Eyeballs having too many B-days.)

Found out my 39a has a taste for expensive ammo yesterday. No sure if that is good or bad.
