Also....My experience has shown that kids under 12 might be more successful shooting off a rest rather than off-hand. Front rest only. This greatly increases their success and interest in the sport. Just a thought!

Look for the cheapest Vellum/TagBoard , stay away from NewsPrint, Drawing or Writing paper they have longer fibers and tear instead of cut.

Look for weight over 30, but stop at a top of 80 (card stock), slightly off white and a dull finish will help with glare.

Before you go shopping, check to be sure your printer can handle heavy paper, many have to go to single sheet after 40 or 60 pound. Also check your black ink supply, you'll go thru a lot of it printing targets.

My current paper is some Champion Covered Vellum, Cream Puff 80 pound that I picked up on clearance for $3 at Big Lots five years ago.

Bob

Paper to Print Targets...

Office Max has the proper paper to print targets.

NEENAH brand, "Exact Vellum Bristol", 67lbs, Semi Smooth finish, lots of different colors. I chose an off white, beige color. Looks and feels just like the NRA targets.

250 sheets for $14.99

Worked fine in my HP 8610 printer with automatic feed.

Testing to commence this afternoon.

Hope this helps!

Target frame & pellet trap, construction

What I did:

17.5" x 25" 2x4 outside frame with 17.5" x 24" plywood backer. Inside becomes 14.5" x 21" which is the right size for old newspapers to act as cushions for the pellets. Leg braces on each side, a handle up top and tack on cardboard & tape target to the cardboard.

Home Depot has thick plywood in 24"x24" size and they will cut it there to 17.5"x24" and get a 2x4 and cut from it two pieces 25" long and two pieces 14.5" long. Frame up this wood on the plywood which will leave one inch of 2x4 on each side for the bottom legs. Drill holes in the center of the 25" pieces for bolts which are used with wing nuts to secure braces to keep it upright. Secure some sort of handle up top for ease of carrying it one handed.

Lay a weeks worth of newspapers inside, then tack a piece of cardboard to the frame. Tape the target in the center and go shoot. The total size is generous enough to allow you to set it on the dinner table, get back 33 feet and shoot. My wife only raised one eyebrow when I tried it out today. Confirms I need to practice. December is right around the corner.

10 meter airgun match

David Valdina, 10 meter offhand match, indoors.

12/1/14
Daisy 853 with peep sight rear and aperture front sight.
.177 RWS pellets
8,7,8,7,5,7,8 & 7=57/100

12/3/14
Same air rifle & pellets.
8,7,7,6,8,5,7,9,7, & 8=64/100

This is the only air rifle I have here in Florida. When I get up North this coming summer I will have two RWS pellet rifles, one in .177 and one in .22 to shoot. I have A-17 targets coming and these scores are on the US Army official 50 ft. small bore rifle targets. I hope the scoring rings are the same as the A-17 targets. They look the same size as the target posted by Duane, aka, PigButtons
