Nice find Bob! Well done! My 37 also came (via consignment) from the original owner. He bought it in 1948.

Welcome to the club! Note: the club is limited to a max of 12,000 members. Okay, less then 12,000, 'cuz some guys have more then one 37!

MN22LRFAN, What stock did you use to replace the Kevlar stock? And where did you get it? I would like to do that conversion.

Bought the black walnut stock blank from Johnson Wood Products in Strawberry Point, IA, [email protected]. They e-mail you images of stocks that may meet your needs, and you pick what you want, or in person. A local to me in MN stockmaker did the final shaping, checkering, and finishing. The 90% inletting was done by someone else first. Other good sources for wood are Old Tree Gun Blanks, and Paul and Sharon Dressel Stocks. The high end blanks are beautiflul and expensive.

40x sporter

Nice gun! What barrel weight did you order? Looks like it has a oil finish? Nice wood! Could you give us the details? Even though I prefer the repeater I believe that I could live with this gun-Art! How about you?

Absolutely John! The wood on Skywag's 40XR Sporter is unreal! supurb 'hand-checkering', etc. very, very sweet!!!

Question Skywag, "Is the wood on it a Grade II, Grade III ?" Just curious so we can start to 'bone-up' on the 40XR Sporters!

Thanks again for sharing!

Art

Yes, steel butt plate and grip cap. The wood blank was sent to Remington. Remington does not allow that but it was sent in from one of their largest dealers, and they made an exception. I think it was about 20 years ago.

I didn't "order" it. Someone else did, and when it came into the gun shop he had gone broke. So I bought it. Tragically, I have shot it!! (grin)
