Thank you Navy. I myself was Army Airborne but let me please honor my Dad by adding him to the rest of your proud Navy heritage. He's no longer with us but he served aboard an LST against Japan during WWll. Oh,and couldn't swim a lick.

Water taxis for jarheads. In 67 they put me on the USS Repose hospital ship for 13 days of which some recuperated 11 days in Olongapo brothels. First rate service, on the ship, on the ship! )

Dad was commissioned USN 42-47 and 50-53, uncle Annapolis "26", I was borne and raised in Norfolk. Daughter is DOD and nuclear eng working on "boats" in the Norfolk Navy Yard. They wouldn't even draft me in 69 when I went for my physical when they saw my knee scars from surgery for athletic injuries and MC wreck. Used to hang at "Jolly Roger", "Red Onion", "The Thirsty Camel" and "Snug Harbor". If you were in Norfolk you know where they were. Onion and Roger are gone but the Camel and Snug Harbor are still there, I think. No I wasn't Navy but it was all over me. BnB

Later, M60s were mounted on the bridge wings and we practiced off the fantail at garbage.

Worked as an A&P mechanic for Beech Aerospace at NAS Whiting Field, 1978- 81. Maintained T-34Cs. Half the guys I worked with were retired Navy, and I married a WAVE while I worked there.

That's as close as you can get to being in the Navy when you weren't.........
