''Rigger Ammo Poor Boy's Challange''

Ok, I guess that I will get the ball rolling for this, there seems to be a good bit of interest in having a less expensive game to play. The premise is simple, a game to play where you don't have to burn up your $$ ammo and can have some more fun "tuning" your SuperStock rifles.

Link to old game run by JJFUNK and BS1:

https://www.rimfirecentral.com/forums...d.php?t=344707

The rules are similiar to the original:

Distance-25 yds

4 groups, one target

4 shots per group and four measuring shots

The AVERAGE of all four groups has to be equal to or less than .250"

Now this all looks really familiar so far, but here is the curve-ball. All attempts MUST be shot using "Bulk Grade" ammo. The whole idea here is to see how good we can get the less expensive ammunitions to shoot. Who knows, you may end up finding a bulk-pack brand and setup that allows you to shoot teeny-tiny groups without having to spend a fortune on ammo (at least that is what we are all hoping will happen)

The following is a list of "Less expensive" (ok, some of them are plain cheap) ammunitions that are the design basis of this challenge.

Aguila SuperExtra SS 40gr
AguliaSuperExtra HV 40gr
Agulia HV 40gr
Armscor target 40gr
Armscor HV 36gr HP
CCI Quiet 22
CCI Blazer

Fed AE5022
Fed 510
Fed 710, 712, 714, 745, etc...
Fed AE22
Fed AutoMatch

PMC Zappers

Rem Bulk (Golden Bullets, etc...)
Win. Dynapoints
Win. Experts
Win. WildCat
Win. 333

Looking through the list, you can see the pattern. We are after the less expensive and oftentime "Bulk Pack" style ammunitions. If you have a favorite cheap ammo, and it isn't listed above, bring it up! We can always discuss it and possibly add it to the lists. Just remember, a good guide would be the cheaper the better, and most definately nothing from the Wolf/SK+ level and up.

EDIT: For requirements of an ammo to make the list, see roothog's post # 13.

Scoring will of course still be on the "Honor System". Measure your target, and post it in this thread. It would also be nice to post a picture of and a run-down on the SuperStock rifle that you used to shoot your target. MOST IMPORTANT: We all want to know what ammo you used to shoot your target, and if your target qualifies, it would be great if you shared you set-up for others to try out (torques, bedding, etc)!

EDIT: Please only submit targets you shot specifically for this game...... no ''crossover'' targets. RH

I am looking forward to seeing the "Good, Bad, and Ugly". I am also interested to see what ammos can get into the club. I know that all of the ammo we will be using is "cheap", but I want to encourage people to try to tune their rifles to a few different ammo's, and to try as many types as they can find, not just grab the Automatch etc.

Good luck to us all, we are following in your footsteps Rigrat!!

ENTRY CLARIFICATION

To keep in the spirit of the shooter looking for good cheap ammo, it has been decided that a single receiver may be entered multiple times into this game. To qualify as an additional entry for that receiver, subsequent target must be shot with different ammunitions that still qualify under the "Bulk" guidlines. This change is to encourage as many persons to continue trying to figure out all of the inexpensive ammo's that will shoot well in their rifles, and so that persons with only one Superstock rifle can continue participating in this group even if they already have an entry. I hope that this will give incentive to all of you to try as many of the less expensive ammo's as possible, and should also serve as a learning experience for some of us on how to tune our rifles to different ammunitions.

Avast!! ye scurvy lot o' bulge rat excuse for a ship load o' pirates!! Here's a game for those of ye what have yet to find the ''buried treasure''. That's right, shootin' the cheap stuff. An' if you're broke most of the time like me, poor ol' roothog, you can truly appreciate this one. All joking aside, it's an honor to be allowed to take one of SuperStock's grand ol' games...... I will do my best to run it fairly and properly RH

pdx, I think the way that CCI SV got on the list was by way of the 50 cnt cardboard boxes that were selling for around $22 a brick, or around $4.40 per 100/ $2.20 per 50. I would think that $30 a brick would be getting a little high. We do, however, need to discuss a '' cutting off'' point taking into consideration the way ammo prices have risen. I'm open for suggestions RH

Edit: I may stand corrected, as I see that Win Subs on Midway are $34 a brick

There is nothing wrong with taking ammo OFF of the list if it gets too expensive. The original idea was to keep it as cheap as possible

Is 3.00 going to break the bank for a box of 50?
Perhapse he should pass on the 5 dollar coffees 2X a day

and just to be fair REM golden bullets were 3.69 per 50 at bimart too!!
box of 525 was only 17.90 I usually wait till it gets to about 14 bucks on sale

Cheapest I can find CCI SV locally is $9/100 and I can buy Fed 711b locally for $3.95 I saw SK+ at a gun show for $30/brick.....

Make a list of "cheap" ammo and stick to it.

At $30 a brick I would have maxed out my cards and spent half the food money to buy it all. I have not looked at the rules but I think they mention that a one time sale does not mean cheap ammo for this game.

I think $4 for 50 is not really in the spirit of this game.

Well, it's good to get any discrepancies and questions answered right off the bat. And I'm no count as a leader of the game if I don't come up with a reasonable solution. I already have an idea of what direction to go, but want to do a little more research before I submit my recommendation. At that point, we will see if that recommendation meets the approval of most of you scurvy pirates. ( Or do I walk the Plank ) RH P.S. One thing I can say already...... prices should be considered on a '' per brick'' count, regardless of how they are packaged.

'' Bulk'', ''bulk grade'' ''cheap'', ''less expensive''....... it's clear that the intent of the author of this game was to get the best results from the cheapest ammo possible. To determine what ''cheap ammo'' is, there has to be some guidelines. So.....
CCI Mini Mags are universally known and I don't know anyone who considers them ''cheap ammo'' in grade or price. Therefore, they will be the ceiling for the list. Anything the same price as CCI MM's or higher will be invalid. Prices vary across the country, even at Wal Mart from store to store. So I pick Midway as the offical price guide. Everyone can access them by computer and I believe they represent a good general pricing across the board. Prices are considered by the ''brick'' ( 500 ct ). The price of a brick of CCI MM's today is $29.99 ( Sales don't count ) As the price of CCI MM's changes, so will the ceiling.

Root hog, what about the count in a brick? American eagle sells in 400 round count boxes, while Winchester sells in 555 round count boxes? So do we go off the price for a box or set a standard count? As far as taking names off the board, could we create a list of people who are grandfathered in?

Jab, since a brick is 500 ct, we would figure it that way. Not so hard, just a little math. For instance, a 500ct of AE22 figures out to about $25.70 give or take a few pennies ( Midway price). And correct, no one's name would be taken off the board, as at the time they submitted a target the ammo was legal. ''Grandfathered in'', as you say. RH
