52 Model Serial Number Ranges

Below is my latest listing of serial number ranges associated with the various models/revisions for the 52 rifle. I plan updating this as pertinent numbers are discovered. If anyone has suggestions for improving the format or new numbers to add to the list, please send them to me at [email protected].
Steve

EARLY UNMARKED SPORTERS: This includes all Sporters prior to being stamped with an "A".
Low # 33925 Listed on GunBroker 9/26/11
High # 41310 This gun was sold by Rock Island Auction 9/11/10, and was listed as a B model. S/N was listed, and it did not include a suffix, so assume it was not stamped "A".

ALL MODELS MARKED WITH AN "A":
Low #39735A
High #44388A Amoskeag, July 2011

B SPORTERS:
Low #45775B Comstock auction 3/11
High # 84648B (Julia auction 2010)

B TARGETS:
Low # 44431B (Heavy barrel,Marksman stocked)
High # 77879B (U.S. Property stamped on receiver above s/n)

C SPORTERS:
Low # 8289XC
High # 103314C (Julia auction, fall 2008) This rifle was not d/t'd, and proofs do not line up. Thus, I am suspect that it was an original sporter. Possibly had a butchered action, and a target action was substituted. With this s/n, it would have been one of the very last C sporters. According to my calculations, it would have been made very late in 1959 or very early 1960.

C TARGETS:
Low #72667C, next lowest #75642C
High #105173C (Houze estimated that the C production ended at 104400C)

D MODELS:
Low #105269D
High #122682D

E MODELS:
Low #E122593 * Previous low E was E122128. I doubt its validity, so removed it from list.
High #E125419

I can tell you that the receiver was serial numbered between August 15th, and October 12th, 1936. As to when it was assembled, probably within a few months of that date. Legally, the day the s/n was put on the receiver, it became a firearm.
Hope that helps. Unfortunately, there are no existing records as to when it was sold.

I looked at a 52 over the weekend. Serial #37357 (or could have been 39357, I should have written it down), heavy barrel and target sights. I know very little about the 52 but was intrigued by this one, it was in really nice condition. I came close to giving it a new home, but decided I don't know enough not to get burned. A few dents and scratches in the stock, and some staining around the steel butt plate, but nothing serious.

C Bullguns

Seewin-John-Brian,
Were C bullguns made within a certain range of serial numbers given their short offering time? If so, do you have that range? Tks --Greg

Not sure what you mean by "short offering time"? Mine range from 82731C to 103486C, which pretty much covers the C model production duration.
