I should be wrapping up the cleanup of this soon. I will post pictures when I get it completed.

That seam is correct for an original barrel. The white highlight usually is chalk. Use a toothbrush and a good solvent to remove the stuff whatever it is. 0278 is an early one....the barrel is probably not marked Ac-Kro-Gruv? Regards, Rick.
This is the one that is marked Ac-Kro-Gruv. That is why it is a mystery since it is such an early serial #.

Now some photos

Notice on top of the front sight how the peep loads from the top? All of my other Lyman 17's load from the rear after you take out the screw. Is this a Lyman or something else?

Its a correct Redfield 60 series globe.....perfect. It is also no mystery that it has a AKG barrel. They mystery is why some of them don't! It should also have a Redfield 75 peep. Someone put a Lyman on the rifle post manufacture. Regards, Rick.

Your front sight is a Redfield which matches tha Redfield receiver sight. Redfields were the standard sights on the 144US models.

For serial 0182 change stock to birch, taper to unknown,(no measuring tools of sufficient precision).

Add No A-K-G on barrel markings.

CMP barreled receiver, Numrich stock, extractors, internet auction sights, bolt handle & mags, RFC member bolt, Havlins firing pin, hand stop and swivel.

Another data point on the model 144US rifles. I picked this up at a gun shop so I don't know the history on it. Data points as follows:

s/n US 0065; Birch; Redfield 68, 75 rcvr, 27 1/4, muzzle (.864) to action juncture (.905) to front of ejection port (.921), Circle P on bbl; one hole mag; barrel marked with A-K-G.

Hope it helps! I can take some photos and post if needed, but it looks very similar to all the other photos already posted.

It's the earliest rifle posted so a picture or two is in order!

Interesting the AKG barrel seems to show up on only the early ones. Regards, Rick.
