I have no idea when the switch was made but I'll do my best to find out. Does your bore have an ACKRO GRUVE barrel? Regards, Rick.

I just assumed that either it got missed or it was too early in the series to get the stqmp. As far as the bore goes I couldnt tell you the difference between an acko gruve bore and a standard bore, it shoots incredably good. Right now I have it in a bench stock and every time I shoot it im more impressed with it.

I just purchased (today) a Mossberg 144 LSB as follows

SN 20261
No Warning
Walnut
1 red peg
No AC-KRO-GRUV
Lyman 17 A Front

Just in front of the chamber it says NO. 14.......anyone know what this means.

Re-Post

I am following up to correct my post. I said SN 20261 but there is a B after it. I have checked my gun three times now compared to the pictures posted here. My gun has the lowest sn starting with a 2 but it only has one red. Seems to me the safety is larger than the ones posted int he pictures. It actually covers the red when on safe.
In addition I have read through all the posts and no one else has referenced a No. 14 just forward of the chamber. Interesting.

I am new here but thanks to everyone on this forum, the 144 lsb is a really cool old gun.

I would love to post pictures but evidiently this forum is smarter than I am. I have read the instructions on putting up a picture but I do not have a "Manage Attachments button. The instructions are listed below. Am I missing something?

To attach a file to your post, you need to be using the main 'New Post' or 'New Thread' page and not 'Quick Reply'. To use the main 'New Post' page, click the 'Post Reply' button in the relevant thread.

On this page, below the message box, you will find a button labelled 'Manage Attachments'. Clicking this button will open a new window for uploading attachments. You can upload an attachment either from your computer or from another URL by using the appropriate box on this page. Alternatively you can click the Attachment Icon to open this page.

Double click the following link, it is an explanation of how I think most of us post pictures here....

This link shows the steps needed in picture form and looks a little daunting at 1st, but once you get the hang of it, it's really simple... it's the greatest thing since sliced bread... At least I think so...

Thanks to Alecbh....

I found a clue to the No. 14 stamp. I took the stock off and found "East YMCA Youth Shooting Club" stamped on the under side of the barrel. I am betting they use to number their guns so they could pick out the same one every time. However the stamp on the underside is clearly done with a hammer and letter punch set whereas the No. 14 is much more proffesional. What do you guys think?
