Hot Rod Serb LIVES!

IT'S ALIVE!!!!

The above is an old picture. Tomorrow I will get a couple new ones.

Refresher: The Hot Rod Serb stated life as an extremely homely Charles Daly Zastava. Agoetz2005 refinished the stock for me using tung oil after sanding off all the ugly finish and checkering.

Accuracy while not awful was certainly not enough to maintain my interest. Best groups at 100 yards were with Fed American Eagle AE5022. Those groups ran from 1.25" to 1.5". Not bad but certainly not great. Yes I tried several match ammos but the AE5022 was best

So it stayed for a number of months. What to do?.

The heart of every accurate rifle is the barrel and the chamber there in. The bore of this rifle is extremelt smooth and shiny. That helps. but what to do.....?

Send the barrel to nemohunter for rechambering and other work. Many of our SuperStock shooters have had good luck with nemo reworked barrels and I have a Skeeter reworked barrel that is very accurate. So after shortening to 20 inches it was sent off. I got it back last week and the work looks very nice.

Yesterday after a big struggle I got the barrel back into the action. It is an interference fit so I froze the barrel and heated the action to as hot as I dared. Even with that it was a pretty good struggle getting it seated. I got my excercise!

Today I reassembled the rifle. I will mount the scope tomorrow. Hopefully I will get a chance to test it as well. Reports to follow.

This ought to be fun.

All right Vince , can't wait to see this one in action. Good luck hope it shoots fantastic for you. But with a Nemo re-work I'd suspect she will be great.

Chambers just fine but will not extract a loaded round. I half expected that

The chamber engraves the bullet pretty firmly so not ejecting was to be expected. I have to go to the range to fire it or wait till Thursday when I go to Mike's.

I did not want to say much about the chamber as it may be something nemohunter would not want to spread around but if he cares to it would be interesting. The crown he did is also beautiful.

I was going to bed this rifle right off the bat but I thought it might be more fun to test it as is and then bed it and retest. Maybe we will all learn something. Could be an interesting trip.

Time to fire up the Hot Rod Serb.

yeah Vincent I would expect that to be the case. that reamer Nemo designed is a snug fit and I have the same prob with some of the ammos. the results though will prove that snugness is well worth it

The Weatherby would sometimes do that Vincent, had to either fire the round, or knock it out with a cleaning rod down the barrel, and I don't like putting cleaning rods in the crown end.....

Haven't had it happen with either CZ, and that surprises me somewhat since they both have every tight chambers, this is not to say that it can and probably will happen at some point though....

Looking forward to a new set of photo's and a range report........

This chamber is more like the Weatherby's than a CZ.

Some pictures of the reassembled rifle. I like it's looks much better with the shorter barrel. Ir handles better too This is a very slim, light rifle. Would be a good hunting rifle. Not so get on a bench rest but shootable:

I was shooting in 40calcritter's back yard range and shooting off of a table that had a wobble of about 3" I first shot it at 75 yds with Fed Automatch.......did not really do well but the barrel was squeaky clean and it seemed the rifle did not like this AutoMatch. Actually my 10/22's did not like this batch as well as usual either

Agoetz2005 moved the target in to 50 yds and I got out the last of my SK Standard Plus. I did not clean between ammos as my Patchworm finally broke the end off today. I shot a 3 shot group, then a 5 shot group and then THIS 5 shot group. The flier was called. My fault do to wobbles from the table. The other 4 shots went into .235"[email protected] 50 yds

At that point it was hot and late and I decided to keep my ammo for when I could shoot it someplace that would be more productive. I have to say that the Hot Rod shows promise. Still no bedding or tuning except a triangle of rubber right in front of the action to float the barrel.

I'm very happy so far.
