Remington 541 M??????

Did Remington ever make these? I went to a shoot last weekend and saw a man set his rifle on the Offhand table preparing to shoot 50yd Steel Chicks, and the lines sure looked familiar! The barrel almost looked like one off a 513T, but it had the El Cheapo Plastic mag from the 541/581 series. I asked, and was told it was a 541 M! I replied that I had never even heard of one before, and he replied that he had only ever seen two of them, and bought this one at a Gun Show. It was scoped, but also had a rear sight mount that at first glance looked like the one on the 513T and 521s. the front Globe sight looked like the Reddfield 60 series, also! HELP!

No 541-M that I've ever heard of. No mention of it in John & Roy's book either. Are you sure it wasn't a 541-X?

Should have looked at the barrel marking yourself to make sure what it was. I suspect the owner gave you some wrong info. 541X like PWNolan mentioned makes more sense. They were a military training rifle that did not see much use and what they had ended up being sold through CMP. Had a stock of stained hardwood and barrel dimension similar the 513T. Came with a Williams aperture sight as I recall. Used plastic 541-581 magazine. I had one a few years ago. Shot ok.

I did ask that if it was an "X".....

and he said no! However, I did not look at the barrel myself. He did say a lot of work was done on it to make it shoot well! That was the last shoot there for the season, so I'll have to look for it next year. The Club is 70 miles away, so 2 of us started taking turns driving. Great shoot there!
