Last fall I purchased 2 Vortex Viper 6.5-20x44. I have found both scopes have a horrible halo over 10X and clarity at higher powers is iffy. I am curious on whether its a common issue or if I got 2 bad scopes.

I purchased these scopes on sale for 299 at cabelas and sportsmans warehouse if that makes a difference.

When I BOUGHT my Vortex it was used. It had an 'extra' dot at the crosshair. Sent it back and they replaced it with a new one, no questions asked. As good as Leupold's warranty is, if you mount it.....it's YOUR'S! Vortex replaces their scopes mounted or not.

I have what sounds like the same scope on my 527 Varmint.

It is nice and clear at all magnification levels. I've compared it carefully to several of my scopes and found it very similar in terms of clarity, brightness, and overall optical quality. Some of these include:
Sightron SII 6-24x42
Weaver Grand Slam 4-16x44
Burris Fullfield II 4.5-14x42
Weaver V-24 (Vortex might be ever so slightly better)

So, from your description, I'd say there's definitely something wrong with yours.

Make sure that the scope focused for your eye and that the eye relief is correct for you. I have found that at the higher magnifications eye relief becomes less forgiving on most scopes.

I own 2 of those.. both have been excellent = clear and sharp at all power settings.

2 purchases from different places at different times.. With all due respect I suspect a eye issue or user error or set-up error.

I've had a 50mm version for several years and had none of those issues. One of my favorite scopes.
