Model 26C find

Found what I think is a 26C today, have to clean it up yet to be sure it has a nice coat of surface rust and broken trigger guard but otherwise it is complete, I've never seen one of these before it has holes drilled in the upper edge of the stock to put ammo in but not sure if that was factory, can anyone shed light on these rifles.

With what you are saying it should have a W in front of model(W26C), unless someone has just restocked it. The W26C was sold by Spiegel Catalog only, it was also d&t-ed on the top of the barrel and rcvr for the old school scopes.
Here’s an old link showing one.

Nice score! I have not seen one in person yet but missed one at auction last year.

No, it had a animal scene and the owners name on it. This was only offered by Spiegel. There was mention of several different medallions, but I have only seen three, ducks, a stag and a dog.

Started working on the clean up tonight and the bolt handle is loose like bobble head loose, looks like a pin might be in the back of the bolt to hold it but after all these years it's hard to tell, is that what hold the handle on?

The bolt handle...

The bolt handle is threaded onto the bolt body. Repaired one of these for an RFC member a few years ago. the threat should still be around. Try the search function.
God Bless, Frank.

Yup. That bolt and trigger design seems to allow the bolt to slip out. IIRC 1 or 2 of mine I bought missing bolts. Luckily this was 8, 10 years ago when old Mossberg .22s and parts seemed to be all over and inexpensive. Nice little single shots.
