New Stock for 1411

This 1411 from 1973 is one of the better shooting Anschutz rifles I've had. I thought I might try a new stock for the barreled action.

Before and after:

So at looking at these two photos I believe they are two different rifles and not the same one, imho

I'll play. Two different rifles? Why?

My guess is he saw you took the sight mounting blocks off the barrel and thought it was a different rifle.
Just a guess

Plus barrel is re-blued, changed, or just cleaned up and different scope, not that matters, but those are the changes I see without them in person, just saying

I'd say the rifle had been in an eggshell foam case before the first photo, causing the smudges on the barrel. In the second photo it has been recently oiled.

Unfortunately this thread has taken an unexpected direction.

The barreled action is the same in both photos. The scopes are different. But the appearance of the barreled action is different for more mundane reasons. Other than the removal of the barrel blocks and filler plugs installed, the barrel had fingerprints in one picture and none in the other. Had I remembered to wipe the smears last year when I took the first picture, the mystery would not have been as deep.

Penage Guy. Both rifles are beautiful in their own right. I like the new stock and it looks really sturdy on the bags. I thought the CZ guys were enablers, you Annie guys are just as bad. As soon as I get my 1903 back from Alex I will post some pictures.

Great idea as it will ride the bags much better. Those 1411 prone rifles have a bit of cast in the stock that makes free recoil benchrest shooting an issue. The benchrest stock will solve that issue. I have had several 1411's that were exceptionally accurate at bargain prices. Well done.

While it is fun to do, when I switch the same barrelled action between prone and benchrest stocks I have not observed a difference in accuracy.

The benchrest stock does remove more of the human element, making them easier to shoot.

Those prone stocks sure are comfortable!...Tom

1411 Stock

Would the stock that you took off, be for sale? If so, I might be interested.
