Boy, you guys are breaking my heart. Back in the early 70's, I bought a brand new model 54 for $158.00. Loved it but was wanting a little more reach for the groundhogs. After a couple of years, I traded it for a nice used 222 Anschutz, model 153. been kicking myself ever since. I've got a safe full of nice guns, Weatherby, Anschutz, CZ's and a couple of varmint rifles I built, but I still miss my 54.

Dave, congrats on finding a nice one, don't ever sell it.

I would reset the parallax myself. All you have to do is loosen the dew cap and twist the lens carrier in or out until you have a parallax-free focus at your chosen distance. The lens carrier should have two opposing slots that a jigsaw blade will snugly fit in. It’s even better if you cut your spanner so it fits the ID of the occular and can engage both slots. There are several RFC posts how to do it yourself. I have successfully adjusted several.

I allow matte scopes on gloss guns only if it is a dedicated hunting gun. If you bring that configuration to my range for an afternoon of anything but sighting in for hunting, penalty flags would be flying and you would be buying dinner for all who witnessed such a faux pas.
