I believe the OP is referring to Model 39 (NO"A").

Yes, anything above about 1085fps may damage the bolt.

He did post an S in rage serial # ,so that’s 1958, or so I thought, but I looked it up and S could mean older and no HV. But 1085 to 1130 , diff of 115 , a little over 10% might be ok. Might not.

Delta is 45 fps. Would that really be too much for a 39 non-A?

Remember that the initial loading for the 22LR was 1048fps.

Pre-WW2 metallurgy is not what it is today. I always err on the side of caution, but others can do as they want. I have seen 2 crack bolts that could have been prevented. It's the pressure not the FPS that does the damage.

Model 39 (not ďAĒ)

Thanks for your help/opinion vepr762, I will have to try and find something a little slower than 1130fps, To bad as I already had 5000!. Iím thinking of getting some CCI Standard Velocity 22 Long Rifle Ammo 40 Grain Lead Round Nose at 1070fps.

Model 39

Toomany22s: Yes this is not a 39a the closest I could date it is 1925-32, and yes from what Iíve read it needs standard speed only, Iím just trying to find out what ammo will work out the best without worrying about breaking something!

Thanks for your comments!

CCI SV is my go-to ammo for any pre-WW2 Marlin rimfire lever or slide action.
