Finally found a Scout Scope that I like

I have had this take-down for two years now. It is actually pretty accurate for a TD and will shoot under an inch at 50 yards. Problem was that it would not hold zero after taking apart, putting back together. I had a local gunsmith attach a rail directly to the barrel.

Last weekend, I was at a local range/gun store and they happend to have a used Leupold scout scope in the used scope mix. It was priced right and came home with me. I now finallyhave a scope scope on my TD. I have it boresighted by eye and have yet to fire it, but it all fits into the case perfectly. The scope is a FX II 2.5 x 28 scout scope. Not a lot of magnification, but enough for a nice clear sight picture and accurate aiming.

Not a great picture and my reloading bench is a mess, but here it is.

Looks good. I have the same scope on my .44mag 1892 clone and I like it so far!

Looks sharp! What rail did you use for the mount?

Very nice. I don't understand why the irons would not hold a zero after take down. Also, I'm curious if the new setup affects bbl harmonics.

I had a scope (cheap one) mounted on the receiver. Every time I put it together, the zero would be off a little and yes, I have tightened up the connection. The iron sights are about useless for me. Way to low and hard to see.

I took her out last weekend with this set up and she shot a 3/4" 10 shot group at 25 yards, and a 1.5" 10 round group at 50 yards. Next outing I will test repeatability with firing 10 round groups with disassembly/assembly in between.

As for the rail, I don't know what exactly the gunsmith used. He had to mill it down to match the angle of the barrel taper.
