Angry 10/22 takedown suppressed still loud

Log in to see fewer ads
So I'm having an issue with my 10/22 TD. Basically, its still loud when I attach my suppressor to it and I've tried my friend's suppressor with the same issue. My Mark I is insanely quiet with all ammo types, but my 10/22 is still pretty loud even with subsonic and powderless ammo. Gas escaping from the takedown area is all I can think of. Any ideas?

Mine is quiet with any ammo below 1200fps. I do hear the action but that is with any semi-auto. I do have the TacSol SB-X barrel though.

I wouldn't think so, but anything is possible I guess.

Gas escaping from the take down? Do you see fouling and /or gas cutting? There would be if such were the case.
Your MkI is held out away from you, right? The 10-22 is right up there with the action close to your head, I think you are picking up on the action noise rather than the blast, such as it is, out front.
Sill got the oem steel bolt pin? (its a clacker)

It probably your ammo, I only shoot Wolf Target Match with my Outback and Mist and they are totally silent.

Yep, if you still have the metal bolt stop pin, that will be louder. If it is quiet when someone is 10 feet away, you are hearing the action which is normal, but you can put a synthetic bolt buffer in and it will quiet it some. There are lots of choices out there. Viton with steel inner pin, my preference or other choices. It's never gonna be quiet like a bolt action.

List your ammo you are using....
Gas/sound goes out in 2 places.. the action and the muzzle.. the end.

You might try the VQ firefly bolt in addition to the plastic bolt stop. Also there is this thingy on eBay that is used to stop the bolt from cycling , it slips into the ejection port and stops the bolt from being blown back. Or you might try to fire it like the pistol extended out away from your face , just to see if itís the noise being conducted thru your facial bones that is bugging you.

That would only make it worse.

I have a Kidd ULW Classic that I usually shoot suppressed. It is pretty quiet with subsonic, but the sonic crack is fairly loud with HV. Regardless of HV or subsonic, not as quiet as my CZ 455 suppressed. Don’t think any semi auto will be as quiet as a bolt gun.

Loud is a subjective term. I think Hollywood has spoiled expectations for many, however, a suppressor is still so worth it. I am about to have my .22 mag and.17 HMR threaded. They will still be “loud”, but way better than without.

Get a plastic bolt stop pin. Polish the inside of the receiver. and the bolt surfaces. A lot of what you are hearing is the noise from the action. Also, silencers aren't silent....they only reduce the noise to hearing safe levels.

With a semi-auto there are two places from which the sound is dispersed.
You have fitted a suppressor to take care of the muzzle report.
You haven't, and in reality can't, suppress the report that comes from the action, which by the very nature of the design, opens to cycle the next round. The 'blow-back' design.
That's why you don't have that problem with a b/a.
