Anyone Shortened Barrel?

Log in to see fewer ads
I do spot light shooting over here out of a ute (pick up) and find the 592 a bit awkward due to barrel length, wondering if anyone has chopped a 591 or 592 could probably take 3" off the 592 but unsure if this would effect velocity or would it actually increase speeds as with 22 lr and 22 mag, I the 22 mag optimum length to velocity is 19"

Thanks
John

Lowell Kenney from Eagle View Research Center (home of one of the centerfire conversions) told me once that he had done studies on that very thing and if I remember correctly...he said that 16" was the point where velocity started to drop off. He made me a 20" barrel for my TC in 5mm and it shoots very well.

Thanks for your help, going to look into getting a few inches chopped of the barrel length, might have to reduce stock length also to make things balance.

Slugging the bore should be done first.

Do you have a minimum barrel length? There are some suppressor ready bolt guns out there with 16 inch barrels already. What about the 16 inch CZ 455 tacticool?

Well ive had the old rifle out and just fitted my new Nikon Pro Staff EFR 3-9x40 target rimfire scope, love these scopes have one on the wifes 22 mag. You know the rifle is in such good condition it would be a shame to mess with it.

So next option a good quality break action rimfire rifle I can fit and chamber a 5mm barrel for. Anyone have experience with this type of rifle, contenders are a little hard to find here in rimfire.

It would be super if Henry would chamber their single shot rifles in the 5mm Rem. or maybe offer a custom job.

Yep that would be great, just looked at the break action rifles but all center fire, did they ever make a rimfire?

Thank you for putting Al in his place, I was just to shocked to reply, 17 WSM, goodness me

You reckon the H&R would be ok with the higher pressure? we see them from time to time down here it might be an option

The H & R handi rifle comes chambered for .308 Winchester and .45-70 center fire so will likely handle the rimfires just fine.
