Yeah about morel mushrooms and yeah about my super accurate HMR became a safe queen since my ugly black skinny .17 WSM BMAG arose to the throne.

Greg, that is a sweet looking 17 HMR, it's really sad you're never going to shoot it again.

I keep looking up for that plane pulling the banner, but I haven't seen it yet.

Boyds Stocks

I have four rimfire savages and all of them ride in Boyds stocks. Mainly because the plastic stock is crap. Three of them are of the thumbhole variety and I like them best. My Bmag initially shot better from the plastic stock but there was not enough difference to matter and I really like the forrest green laminated and for some reason the shape of Boyds Bmag stock is just beautify with all of the varied colors. Over a period of time I piddled with ways to make it shoot better including: Glass bedding the action, free floating the bbl, putting a pillar block under the bbl, re-floating the bbl and finally added a rugger dognut vibration dampner like in the photo from Ricky above. I had that dampner on my Savage 22 HB and it did not seem to help the bull barrel any so, I removed it and installed in onto the Bmag. Mine is the original pencil bbl and lo and behold it seems to help. I need to shoot it more but and document the changes. It is good for about 1.5" groups at 200y but heats up fast and begins to walk if I shoot more than 4 shots in quick succession. It is topped with a BSA 6-24x optic and likes the 25g ammo best.

This is a hunting rifle and its best features are extreme light weight, long range performance and it has the best cold bore first shot of any rimfire I own. It is dead on the POA when stone cold and does not vary as it warms. Keep the bbl clean. They foul very fast and will not shoot well once fouled. Posting three pics. the black/white bull is 5 shots slow fire at 90yds. All in one hole except the last one where the bbl got hot. I think the white ring is 1" in this case and the group well under 1". #2 is three shots at 200y which measure under 1.5". The grid in the pic is 1" squares. #3 is the rifle in the boyds stock. I love it. It is my go to rifle for coyotes and groundhogs. I would call it a 3/4 moa shooter at practical distances if you shoot from a bench/solid rest and have NO WIND, and the bbl is clean. Otherwise you have all of the other Bmag shooters who treat it like a 22lr and wonder why is will not group after shooting 500rd at prairie dogs in a 10mph breeze.

Ditto the cleaning Irish. I learned that lesson with my 17HMR auto.

So POI moves when warm, or doesn't move when warm? Which is it?

There's a difference between warm vs hot I believe was the intent.

Oh. I see...

It was a hot barrel, not a warm barrel, that ruined that .2 moa group. So it doesn't shift, until it does. I'm tracking now. Thanks for the clarification.

I have the skinny barrel and plastic stock and the rifle is plenty accurate. I am not going to re-stock it because I like the light carry.
