Recommendations About A New 1911 .22

Hi folks!

My son-in-law is looking for a new 1911 .22 pistol, primarily for shooting it at an indoor range, and possibly as a HD gun for the house (). He has a Taurus .380 for HD but wants a 1911 .22 also. He is not well versed with guns on the market today and has some questions. He has a line on a GSG with a rail and a fake can for $320 at a LGS.

I told him I would pick your collective brains to see what the majority consensus is.

I have a 1911 .22 that I built from a stripped Olympic Arms Matchmaster frame that I picked up in 2013 and used SARCO, Numrich, and Wolff parts, along with a 1992 Ciener top end with a 15-round mag. Long story. He has shot it and likes it. He has very big hands and the long Gov't Model hammer spur along with the short grip safety spur bit him a couple of times.

I want to know the pros and (mostly) the cons about various guns, and I will forward any and all comments to him once everyone gets tired of responding to this thread. I am sure this has all been hashed out before in previous threads, but I would like to give him a somewhat concise representation of your views.

Thank you in advance!

Regards,

Jim

I looked at all the reviews of the GSG 1911 22 and decided to buy one.

I took it to the range and fired 300 rounds of CCI Patriot ammo out of it with not one failure. The gun looks and feels like a standard Government Model and a pleasure to shoot with .22s. There is no recoil.

Groups were impressive. I fired another 500 rounds Friday after putting on the Tandemkross Accurizing Kit. It took 200 rounds to break in but then ran flawlessly again.

It takes apart like the GM except for a screw and peg that must come out. PS, after the accurizing kit there is no need for the screw.

The magazine hold 10 rounds but there are accessories for + 4 to up to 16 rounds per magazine. I can't believe how much this gun is supported. It looks good and shoots good. I paid $ 278 for mine but have seen them cheaper on line.

+1 on the GSG ATI .22LR 1911. I paid $239 for mine from SMGA. Can't compliment it enough. Shoots great, feels excellent in the hand, and no failures in about 500 rounds. I didn't care for the grips so I swapped them out for fake ivory grips with the Coast Guard shield on it. Semper Paratus!

Very good so far. I did not think the GSG gun would rate so high. My bad.
