If you were buying a new rifle today, would you choose Savage 93 or Marlin Xt ?

I want a clip fed rifle I can unload quickly for legalities' sake and iron sights, for now.
Not against a Ruger, either. Just more experience with Savage and older Marlins.
I do expect it to hit what I aim at even if it's isn't going to be a match gun so reliable accuracy is most important.
I can't see CZ or that level with what I'm going to do.Truck, four wheeler, etc.

I have the newer Savage B-22 mag compact with open sights and 10 round magazine, it's a fantastic shooter. I also have an older Savage 93G 22 mag with open sights and 10 round mag. The newer rifle shoots better and is more accurate for me anyway. I had a Marlin XT 22 mag and ended up selling it off, it shot ok but it was too long for my needs. Any of them will suit your needs well and last a long time, but if I had to choose between them it would be the Savage B-22 mag.

I have a Marlin XT-22MR. Great shooting, accurate rifle. I have owned it a bit over two years now and only issue was a problem with intermittent light primer strikes at first. A bit of polishing of the firing pin and channel in the bolt and all is good now.
I just looked at a new XT-22MR today with the wood stock, $219 + tax at my LGS.

Personally if I was buying a rifle for a 4 wheeler or truck gun I would look at older used marlins. Great buys are out there to be found. Any of the 80 0r 81 models would serve nicely.

For the $$ if you can find one the Zastava MP22 WMR is a super shooter. Metal work is fantastic. Walnut stocks, not fancy, but good.

I have a Savage 93FVSS that I am very pleased with.
On the other hand my two sons both have XT-22's (though in .22LR)
To tell the truth, they both seem excellent and after seven years (we purchased them together) and thousands of rounds I'd truly say buy whatever you can get the best price on.
You'll be pleased with either.

I have plenty of 22mag rifles: Ruger, Marlins, CZs and Savage rifles...for me today it would be a Marlin...either new style or an oldie...CZs are more expensive. The one I have complete faith in is my older Marlin because I have used it for so long...and it will out shoot many of my other brands. My new Marlin XT22MSVR rifle is very accurate. This is your decision to make.

Good luck on your quest.

I’ve been trying to get a Marlin 22 MTR since January and they still haven’t built any. I’ve given up on them.

Seabreeze1970 sir I would look for a used one...not many people shoot the magnums that much its a hunting round and it's kind of expensive as a plinker. You do know once you find one they will come out of the wood work...that is the way my life has gone...when I have money burning a hole in my pocket I can't find squat just as soon as I change my mind and buy what I can find...the models I have been looking for are everywhere...it happens all the time.

I now have 12x 22mags and I have not shot a 22lr in like 3 or 4 years, I don't want to, also I don't look at any 22lr no matter the brand. I am spoiled by magnum power.

F>B...983 SS, 983 Fleur de lis and my 883

Good luck on your quest

I agree Signalman with what you said. I look at used guns when I have time I’m in no hurry right now. You have some good looking rifles.
