Ruger 10/22 "Man's best Friend"?

Anybody shoot the current 10/22 Collectors Edition "Mans Best Friend"? I'm thinking about getting one and putting a BX trigger group in it. Leave the rest of it stock and use it for Appleseed shoots. I'm presently using a Marlin 989 M2 with a Williams receiver sight. Any input is greatly appreciated.

I have the first edition of the collector series of rifles with the Blue stock. My impression with these series of rifles were of a better QC than standard. No overspray issues on inside of receiver, bluing looks deeper and richer than the average carbine barrel. You get the full rifle 20 inch barrel with the "M1 style" sights and a pic rail. I also changed the stock trigger to a modified BX trigger I tuned for a carbine weight firearm, so it's breaking about 3lbs with very little travel and a very predictable wall. I also took my pinned bolt and guide rod and bolt handle from my TC r22 carbine and put it in my collector series rifle and that completes the package in my opinion of an overall great 10/22 rifle.

Gary, I just ordered one tonight for the same purpose as you are considering, and am considering the BX trigger like you - after I shoot the stock trigger for awhile and see what I can attain with it. Gunning for distinguished with the Collectors Edition.

I just picked one up on clearance for the daughter. I'll put a Brimstone trigger in it, and hopefully it'll be as good as the Walmart 10/22 I picked up last year. He's shooting master class in CMP for 4-H with it.

Palmetto State Armory has the best price that I've seen for the 31115 style 10/22.

The price seems to bounce back and forth between $200 and $220, with $200 being the best/lowest price that I've seen for these rifles.

I don't have any use for a 10/22 with a peep sight, so I'm probably going to sell the barrel, rail, and peep sight off the one that I bought.

Man's Best Friend

Received mine on Friday and so far I am really liking this rifle. Thought the sights would be plastic, but they appear to be an iron alloy which was a nice surprise. They were dead on at 25 yards. Not a precision instrument by any means, but much better than open sights for my taste. Have yet to have a malfunction after about 250 rounds so far. Trigger was around 6 1/4 lbs, so worked it over a bit an it is a solid 4 lb trigger now which will work for my needs. Would have preferred an extra magazine over the street sign and dog tag. One thing that I wasn't aware of was the ample storage in the buttstock. That will be handy for allen wrenches required for the factory sights and the red dot I added, plus one for taking the rifle down when necessary. Nice lightweight and very handy little rifle that I think turned out to be a real bargain.
Here's a 25 yard target after adding the Bushnell TRS-25 red dot. Fired 5 then adjusted and fired the remaining 20 into the center. This was standing with the front supported on my range bag.

Picked up one on the PSA clearance and really like it. Mine has actually been picky as far as feeding, tried several different brands of ammo and most hang up trying to go into the chamber. For whatever reason has seemed to like Federal bulk ammo best. Hoping when it breaks in more it will be fine. As far as the ghost ring sights I really like them compared to the standard ones. They are probably not as good as Tech Sights but for plinking they're great. I've found the stock very comfortable.

Have any of you checked to see if the rail is touching the barrel? Mine was at right front, left a nice bare unblued spot on the barrel. Currently using an EGW (46100) rail while the original is being ground down at the front a bit.

Comes with a $25 coupon. That plus 95 cents will get you the Monte Carlo module for using a scope at Ruger's shop.

I find the stock to be a comfortable fit, as I don't care for drop stocks. The ghost ring was bang on out to 50 yards or so. Since I want to reach further I'm using a CenterPoint 4x16x40 scope, with AO and IR. So far it's been MOSqurrel at 75 yards of so. Good enough for now.

Oh, and it seems to like Federal AE 40g. A plebian bulk ammo choice. Go figure...

I'll take them off your hands if you're ready to sell them.

Just bought one from PSA (Best Friend model) @ $199+shipping+tax. Great price. Same as picture in post #6. Like the peep sight but added a red dot Vortex AR sight. Shoots fine and no issues after first 200+ rds from original mag and 3 other Ruger 10rd mags. Using bulk federal ammo for this break in period. Stock trigger yet, didin't check pull wt yet but definitely heaver pull than my Volguartsen parts in other 10/22 trigger, time will tell if needs upgrade. Intended for a "truck" gun and general plinking mostly. So far happy with this one.

"One thing that I wasn't aware of was the ample storage in the buttstock." from post #9 I think. Didn't realize this option was part of the stock. Will go get gun and check this out.

edit: Azumith...what 10/22 do you have with the storage in the buttstock? My model don't seem to have any that I can figure out...mine is the "Best Friend" model with the green stock and black butt and comb.

Irish Bird Dog-
Maybe "ample" was a bit of an exaggeration, but storage enough for the allen wrenches I might need and a spare battery for the red dot. Just remove the rear sling stud and pull off the black part of the buttstock.
