Aguila only making one type of 5mm cartridge?

I have the ammo with the big soft point but I can't seem to find the ammo with the nice little hollow point. I believe it is Aguila 5mm Rim Mag Ammunition, 1B222406, 30 Grain Jacketed Hollow Point. It's shown on sites but all say "Out OF Stock". Was there a problem making the 1b222406 ammo or is it just the one everybody wants to buy?

I've seen it on ammo web sites but the all say "None in stock."

Ammo Fast appears to have both types, but I would call them to be sure. Many sellers are being very inaccurate about which they have!

Yes, it seems they make or made two types of hollow points and I was looking for the ammo with the small hollow point. Funny thing is I have a white box of them from Centurion ammo -- have no idea how long ago I got it.

As I recall the Varmint hollow point ammo was much less common than the white box with the lead tipped hollow point the first go around several years ago also..

I sent a note off to Aguila asking if there is a reason it's so difficult to find that particular ammo -- not sure if they respond to stuff like that.

Yes, you're right, that's the ammo. Still want to hear from the manufacturer why it's mostly not in stock. That's not a bad price for the 5mm ammo.

Just got a reply from Aguila -- seems this might be a limited run of the 5mm ammo.
This is part of the e-mail they sent me;

"However, the 5mm is becoming harder and harder to locate as it is coming to an end of its limited production run as it released the beginning of January."

I hope they change their mind about the limited run.

Buy all you can as it was years since the last run.

I agree and I did buy! I thought the reason for the first stoppage of the Aguila 5mm ammo was the plant that makes it burned down. The new stuff I'm getting is marked Aguila in Texas -- is the location just the old Centurian location or did Aguila build a plant there?

I don't waste ammo so it's one varmint - one round. I hope what I have will last till they decide to do another run. I had the Centerfire conversion, dies and brass but sold it because it seemed the rimfire ammo was going to be easy to buy -- I guess we will see if that was a mistake.

I have quite a bit of the first run stuff. White box and the varmint hollow point loads. I have a 591 and a 10" contender barrel. The varmint loads are some what hotter than the white box loads, beating them by about 150 fps.. White box loads are in the 2300 fps area, the varmint easily over 2400. In the contender the varmint loads extrude some brass into the centerfire firing pin hole, visible to the eye.

The first case of Varmint loads I bought did not shoot well at all. So I contacted the manufacture and they sent a call tag out for the old with a new full case of the varmint load. This batch is good. Hard to believe it was about 9 years ago. time flies.

The white box ammo has the tougher bullet. Much less explosive on impact than the varmint ammo. Point of impact is very close for each, in my rifle. I also have 15 box of original Remington Peters ammo I have salted away. Killed several coyotes with it, always complete pass throughs with all the 5MM except the varmint. With the white box, I once killed a fat steer in my neighbors yard at his request. It had gotten loose loading it to take to the locker plant. about 1,200 lbs on the hoof! One shot to the head and it was done, like lightning.

Looks to me like they took some velocity out of the latest batch. Hodgedon little gun is the powder used, along with Eley priming. As a NRA small bore nut, I love the smell of eley prime in the morning..

Regards, Kirk
