I want a smoothbore 22 Henry. I emailed Henry support and they have no custom shop.

Does anyone know of a Henry gunsmith that can remove the rifling of the 22 pump or lever?

Thanks!

Patrick

Contact JES. They do all sorts of lever action work and may be able to smooth bore your Henry.

Yes they did. I知 looking out for one of those too. Thought it might be less expensive to have a Henry modified though.

Thanks

This is just pure confusion on my part but what is the purpose of a smooth bore .22 Henry? (Or any other .22)

The process of relining a 22rf barrel requires drilling/boring out the worn out bore oversize to fit the liner. It is not particularly hard to do, you may be able to see some u-tubes of it to get the idea.
This does require making an extension bit.
Smooth-boring a barrel for shotshells would be no harder, the drill a smaller dia. and it will follow the hole while it chews off the rifling lands. The time consuming part may well be the process of sanding out the bore to a decent finish within.
A smoothbore 22 will be of limited usefulness measured likely in close, short yards (or, if you will, long feet) and the game small and easily dispatched.
I would be much more inclined to go with a min. of 38cal, better yet 44 or 45cal.
But then I think why bother when there are so many .410 shotguns to choose from that will do the same, but better, and have available shotshells from 2.5"-3" with various shot sizes. My yard varmint/garden gun is a .410 when it is not a CB/Quiet 22LR, even then I limit them to quite small varmints. We dont have snake issues here so I cant comment on that.

Give this place a call or email and tell them what you want to do. They can supply you with everything you need for a rental fee. As the bullet on a 22lr is the same diameter as the case you only need to remove the rifling from the barrel. If you take your time you should be able to do it by hand. Have you read up on 22lr shot shells? You might fine that CCI shot shells might fit your needs, however a 22lr shot gun is cool and I have done crazier things. Oh yeah remember you are making a shotgun and the barrel length needs to be 18 minimum. Make sure you post your results I always like to hear about people痴 special projects.

Quoting Henry: for when something slithers into view through the grass, dispatch those barn-dwelling birds without dispatching the barn around them, or exterminate the mice that are turning your garden into a buffet. Unquote

....Or when you feel the need to take a grasshopper on the wing.
...and I'd want something more for anything that slithers through the grass.

Im not much for shooting most snakes that are out there after the same yard varmints I dont want around; not a snake lover but not a hater either.

That new Henry garden gun stock is very appealing to me. How refreshing to see something a little different. That finish alone makes me want to pull out my wallet.
Ive been wanting a garden gun too.
Now if Henry would just offer a case hardened reciever cover or blued as an after market item, with that stock, id feel like a real cowboy!
