Case for X-22 Hunter takedown?

Log in to see fewer ads
I just purchased the distributor exclusive stainless take-down with the 16" barrel and Magpul X-22 Hunter stock. I was disappointed to learn (upon picking it up) that these distributor exclusive versions (Davidsons #21183) do NOT come with the Ruger carrying case, or any carrying case.

Has anyone found a good quality case that fits the TD with Hunter stock well? There are a lot of AR "takedown" cases out there, but most are 28" or more in internal length, which is about 8" longer than necessary for this rifle.

Did some searching here and found a lot of references to various lightweight cases for the Backpacker model, but those options appear too "flimsy" (e.g. lightweight trumpet gig bags) and I'm not sure about the size of the Backpacker vs. the Hunter stocks when broken down.

Thanks in advance for suggestions

Look at the Ruger Takedown Case. Outside measurements are 23" x 10". Movable velcro pieces so you can configure it any way you want. Velcro Ruger badge. This is what ruger uses on its higher end takedown's.

Skinner also has some very good sights for the Takedown.

Ok , I found it on their website. And it doesn’t clip together like the back pack. S &p has the roger TD bag for $50. Use the RFC code for 5 % savings.

I bought the Magpul Backpacker Takedown that also did not come with a Ruger backpack. So I purchased this Copper Basin Ruger/Takedown case. There are several sized internal and external pockets. The larger internal pocket easily holds the X22 stock broken down. I have been very pleased so far

Big selling point right there!

But seriously, it looks like a pretty good setup. I'm not personally fond of sling type packs (they are ok for short hauls but i've found them very poor for long hikes)

I regularly shoot my Ruger 10/22 takedown, with Magpul hunter stock. When I travel with that rifle, I use my Unique Cases folding takedown rifle case. Even with all the buttstock spacers installed, it neatly holds the entire length of the takedown receiver end, and the barrel end slips into the other pocket. I can then put an accessory pouch, sling, and other goodies into the barrel pocket. The case has a pocket on the outside that can carry two 25 round magazines, or a lot of 10 round magazine. It also has a small, tubular pocket on the inside of the fold that holds my suppressor. Lastly, it has sling loops at both ends, so I can use the hand carrying loops or throw this whole kit over my shoulder, and even take the motorcycle to the range this way. It's a pretty remarkable kit--like a go-bag for the 10/22. The way it folds in half and is then bound by four snap webbing straps is very compact and durable.

Anyway, I don't see this bag on the Unique Cases website anymore, but Skinner is selling the bag (http://www.skinnersights.com/scabbards_20.html). I'm pretty sure Skinner's bag was made by Unique Cases.

I hope this helps.
