Vortex Scope Upgrade

Recently I upgraded the 3X9X40 Bushnell to a Vortex DiamondBack 4X12X40 for my Ruger 10/22 22 Magnum. When I sighted this in at the local Range...I couldn't believe how much Sharper and the increased Clarity this new scope is over the ole Bushnell. I did a lot of shopping for the Vortex and Amazon was the winner at $189.00. Can't wait to put it to the real test when Ground Squirrel Hunting begins in about a month in Eastern Oregon!!!

WATCH OUT RATS.......

Scopes and money

Rifle scopes are truly a case of you get what you pay for. The 4-12x40 Vortex Diamondback runs around $200, give or take. You can pay anywhere from $50 to around $180 for a Bushnell 3-9x40, depending on the model. Regardless, the Vortex should be a better scope and a good choice.

I love that particular scope the diamondback that you have. I have one on my stainless DSP 10/22 for my late season rifle. I've hunted with vortex scopes for years now and my first introduction to vortex was the copperhead 4-12x44mm scope (which is a great scope, but the diamondback seems to have better clarity and light collection properties).

My longest ever shot on a squirrel in the woods was done with my copperhead scope at 105 yards with a CZ 455 in 22 LR. It was due to the ease of being able to dope that scope for any distance very easily if you know what MOA to go to for the given distance.

Midway has the Vortex Diamondback HP 4-16 x 42mm back in stock and for the same $199 with free shipping plus a free Vortex scope mount. These went pretty quickly the last time they had them a couple of weeks ago.

I eneded up ordering the 4-16x42 diamondback for $200. I have the 4-12x40 diamondback on an AR and I am very pleased with this. Im looking forward to seeing the differences between the two.

OP - I hope you enjoy the scope. I have no complaints with mine so far.

I have its big brother, the Diamondback 6-24x50 FFP, on my CZ455. I also have the very similar Athlon Argos 6-24x50 FFP on my CZ457. Granted, there is a price difference between the two scopes, but the optic quality of the Vortex blows the Athlon away. The Argos is a very good scope for the money, and I intend to keep it, but I won't buy another one. To me, the much better glass in the Diamondback is worth every penny.

Midway removed the free rings offer for several of their Vortex scopes that were on sale. Most of the others still have a free set of rings included.

Update Review

Can't tell everyone how happy I am with the Vortex on my 22 Mag!!! At our most recent Rat Hunt (Eastern Oregon Beldin Ground Squirrel) the Vortex added another feature to the Hunt. Because of the increased clarity and the 12power to this new scope, I found myself shooting and whacking those squirrels at 100 plus yards. The 22 Mag can reach out to that range and now the Vortex lets me see and be confident at ranges that I seldom would take in years past.

THANK YOU VORTEX!!!!

Have Fun and Shoot Safe!!!!!!!!!!
