If you were looking to buy only one, what would your choice be? Why?

Have had both. I decided to keep the 592 so as not to have to deal with the high dollar fragile plastic magazines. There are now aftermarket plastic magazines that are said to be better than the originals. My 591 grouped slightly better that my 592. 592 is nice to carry while hunting because no magazine sticking out the bottom where I like to place hand while carrying rifle.

I grew up shooting my dad's tube feed 22 and never liked the loading and especially the unloading. I got my wood project 592 with 6 boxes of ammo in a trade for a shotgun.

Tough decision

My 591 did so poorly with the new ammo that
I let it go. If you could test the rifles before purchase that would determine the choice, for me at least. My rifle was great with the original ammo and I can’t grasp why it hasn’t been reproduced as it was.

Why manufacturers can't load a consistent cartridge is beyond me...I'll include centerfire rounds in this discussion too. I realize it's mostly about volume when it comes to production, there's a market for quality and consistency too. Sounds like the 17hmr rounds are getting more inconsistent with age too, they were known for their accuracy when they were introduced but now it's becoming more challenging to get results people are accustomed to. A loosening of their quality standards maybe?

I have both.

The aesthetics of the 591 are better. But the magazine is less than sturdy and holds fewer rounds. The 592 doesn't look as nice to me. But load it up and go hunting. My 592 is actually more accurate than my 591 with the first-run Centurion ammo.

Trying a different Lot# of this new Aguila ammo would be wise, if it shoots poorly in your rifle

My answer is similar to HUSHKABOOM's. I owned two 591s and a 592 when Aguilla first started producing 5mm Rem. That made my 591's easy to sell. 592 just carries better and holds more ammo.
I kept a couple 591 factory magazines, in case I ran across a nice rifle that needed one. Since the magazines are being made now, they might not be as valuable as they once were. I just like old factory parts better I guess.

I've had both, but not at the same time, I've read several places, and supposedly an article in a shooter's /bible type publication, maybe just about rimfires that the 592 supposedly was a little more accurate than the 591. I too have had problems with the new, (not the newest) stuff, will get 3 maybe 4 rounds to group pretty well, then have one or two fliers out of a 5 shot group, I also have a T/C contender bbl (bull carbine) but haven't fine tuned it yet. I still have maybe a hundred or less of the original Remington, it grouped better, Can't wait to try the new stuff, haven't tried the old stuff in the Contender, need to.
