Just bought a new Traditions Mountain Rifle in 50 cal, 1:48, haven't shot it yet. Anyone got one and had experience with it ? I understand they won't shoot conicals accurately. Love the rifle appearance and anxious to get to the range. Will be starting out with 777 FF and .490 patched round ball. Appreciate any info and suggestions you may have, and has anyone been successful in shooting conicals or sabots accurately. I've been shooting cap lock BP for quite a few years, but let me hear your experiences. Thanks.

i have a made in Spain traditions fox river .50 caliber with the 1-48 twist - i use 3F black powder + .490 patch soft lead ball - i use 90 grs. for hunting + 69 grs for targets - with target load it prints 1" groups at 50 yards [ usually 2 touching ] from a front rest - never had any luck with conicals or sabots in this one -

Do you think FFF is a better powder for this gun than FF ? And if so, why. I want to learn about this rifle.

provides better performance + accuracy in mine - yours might prefer the coarser powder - you will have to experiment a little -

I just bought a Traditions .50 cal lefty several weeks ago. I'm shooting patched round balls with about 55 56 grns of triple f goex. It shoots well with this so called light load. Right now I'm just learning the rifle. Which powder works best in your rifle will have to be found out. Usually two f takes more powder to get the same results as triple f. Experiment, have fun...

Thank you gentlemen. I'll try FFF, and the advice you've all given.
