540X/540XR Thread

I love to look at all the photo's and read about the 37's and 40X. But you never hardly see anything on the 540X/540XR's. I would love to see another forum/sub-forum for those two rifles. Say one off of this form. I see very impressive groupings from the 40X's and some amazing photo's of them, but I do believe the 540x/XR are just as good a rifle just a little newer and single shot. One of these day's maybe I will find a 40X but my 540X I am fully satisfied with.
I would just like to read a little more about them and the people that own them.

I own 2 540XR's and a 540X and I will agree that they are great shooters, sometimes right on par with the 40X.

This with 540XR and Lyman iron sights at 50Yds.

This with 540X with a 24X Tasco at 50 yards.

I also have 3 40Xs and they are in a different league, as compared to the 540's. The only short falls on the 540's IMO is the ignition and the triggers. Wished they had used a solid bolt and had a better trigger. I would not part with any of mine however.

Lock up on the 540's is suppose to be supper fast. Faster than other rifles or so I hear.

I use to have a 540X and thought that I wanted something else that would be better for target shooting and or as good. I tried to build a 10/22 and after hundreds of dollars it would not compare ( for some reason wanted to try a auto). So I sold the 10/22 and found another 540X on GunBroker and bought it. I Love that rifle so much. In the mean time I bought another Clarks Custom 10/22 that is very close to the 540X but just won't out do it.

I Love hearing all the stories about the 540X & XR's

Thanks for the response. Just wonder there must be a lot more 40X'x out there than the 540X's but I never see any of them locally.

By the way that is some awesome shootng

I would love to see more on the 540XR. I don't have one but would like to get one sometime. These are great Remingtons.

danho,
That is a beauty. Lot of people will say that price you paid is top dollar. I disagree, I have seen them go a lot higher than that and in fact I paid a couple hundred more for mine a couple years ago. I was happy to pay it also.

Congratulations on that beauty and the price. Great Job. You will Love that rifle if you have never had or shot one before.

Thanks for the comments guys. I hope it's in really good shape.
I do have a 540X in a Don Stith stock I bought here last year from Bowedup48.
It's such a good shooter, I wanted another in original configuration.
Hopefully these worn-out old eyes can still use the peeps.
Beautiful rifle there J!
And some fantastic shooting, 52!

540X & 540XR Page

I too would love to see a special thread set up for the 540s. As to the one Danoh just got I paid $325.00 for my silhouette model with NO sights. So I restocked & sighted it and paid about what you did. I think you got a good price

I was supposed to receive mine yesterday, but there was some sort of delay.
Now, it's sitting in a FedEx truck, at least according to the tracking info, for the weekend. Only about 20 miles from me.
Not scheduled to be delivered to my FFL until Monday.

Just side note on the Redfield rear sight. That is not the original one used since the original one had a dogleg shape in the mounting bracket to give it extra height. It certainly is a nice looking gun though and should be a shooter.

Thanks. Got it today. The pics look a lot better than in person.
A multitude of minor dings in stock and I'd say the metal is probably 90%
The camera man was kind to it for sure!
Barrel and especially chamber need a thorough cleaning, a pronounced carbon
ring has built up.
When the weather breaks a little, I'll see how she does.

Thanks, looked it up. My stock really isn't all that bad, nothing a refinish wouldn't take care of.
Just kind of irksome when a seller deliberately isn't 100% forthcoming about condition.
