Scratch-built 10/22 SuperSport

Just finished cobbling together this 10/22. I think it fits the SuperSport parameters (???)
  • Ruger 50th Anniversary Receiver (new take-off)
    • JWH Scalloped Bolt
    • JWH Charging Handle w/ Custom Walnut Knob
  • Ruger BX-Trigger
    • w/ Red Tactical Innovations Alloy Blade
    • Timber Creek Extended Magazine Release
  • Green Mountain 20" Fluted Sporter Barrel
  • Ruger Walnut DSP Stock (new take-off)
  • Weaver 4-16x44 Grand Slam Scope

I'd planned this build around a Richard's Microfit walnut Monte Carlo stock. But it's going to need months of spare-time work to prepare. In the meantime I found a good price on a new walnut DSP take-off. I'm liking the DSP so well that the future of the Monte Carlo is now in question.

The finishing touch: A custom walnut charging handle knob (color matches better in person than the photo would indicate).
Many thanks to fellow RFC member 92lowrider for his help making this happen. Thanks Cliff!

Whoa!!!
That's just super slick !!
Me likes your rifle ALOT !!

I built a LVT CLONE..
But my stock is so plain vanilla..
It looks like a pine 2x4..

Your stock is beautiful.
That charge handle is terrific!!

Yep ..me too.. GM 20 inch barrel.
A serious and accurate shooter.
Bet yours is too.

Very, very nice classic style, Bird-Dog ! 20" tapered barrels in DSP stocks are one of my "in the woods" personal favorites.

The walnut charging handle is a perfectly elegant and an ingenious touch, as well !

Great job !

rawhp, that is a good idea RFC has some amazingly innovative talent in its ranks, and it is always nice to see some of it on display !

....maybe Chaser can start us out with something conservative and understated. *Nah, that wouldn't be anywhere near right !*

Thanks for showing us your rifle, BD !

That is a classic SuperStock rifle if I have ever seen one. Very nice.

Remember that the finest accuracy comes from TUNING that rifle with bedding, barrel support and loads chosen to shoot. I am sure it shoots well now but it is often possible to cut group sizes by 50% with a little tuning.

As for the stock? I would not change a thing!

Your charging handle will likely get dinged over time. Many of the ejected cases hit the handle and the bigger it is the more hit it. All my aluminum handles have gotten pitted from this.

I once had a jamming problem on one with a long handle. After watching a You Tube slow motion of the 10/22 ejection cycle I got the idea that the longer handle was knocking the cases back into the action. Changed handles and zero jams!!

Anyway it is very pretty. Hope I am wrong. Check it occasionally to see how it is going. REALLY nice rifle!

nice build ...as much as I like DSP's modded with the GM HT barrels, it has me thinking about doing another with a sporter barrel

how are you liking the TI trigger blade in the BX?

and that scope has nice proportions on that rig, how is it working for ya'?

maybe your Mont Carlo would look good with a 19" GM HT barrel in it

Sorry for the late reply. But hey, I'm still in under a year... barely.

All I can say is, it outshoots me. I'm just a plinker and casual paper-puncher. But I do love it when it hits where I point it, and this one sure does!
