A friendly competition... January

I know it's a little late but here's the idea.... any air rifle, any caliber, any sights. Fired off hand only... no artificial rests. A total of 20 shots fired off hand at 10 meters (33 feet). Use as many AR-5 targets as you might need. Results will be sorted by calibers. Post your scores in this thread.

Ok guys... the results are in !!! Looks like everyone used a .177 caliber so no need to try sorting by caliber.

The GOLD goes to ForrestR with a 165.
The SILVER goes to Alavir with a 142.
The BRONZE goes to Charlotte with a 133.
Evil Dog comes in 4th with a 111.

Good shooting everybody... let's do it again.

"Use as many AR-5 targets as you might need."

Don't have any. I printed off the 10M Air Rifle version from the Scatt software, but all the scoring lines in the black are like those I ran into on reduced targets - barely visable. However, I also have the targets from Ian Pellant which has a 5 10M on a single sheet, and ran one off, clear distinct scoring lines. Shooting ability with an rifle offhand, less clear and distinct . . . LOL

The AR-5 is the NRA 10 meter Air Rifle target. Black aiming area aprox 1 3/16", 9-ring aprox 3/16", 10-ring is just a dot. Makes things pretty challenging at times.

I'd have to see some others targets before I show mine. I am getting my group down a good full choke. Though group shooting is a little different than score shooting.

Yup, that's what they measured on the two different targets I printed off, just harder to read the one from the Scatt Software due to a lack of bold scoring rings.

You certainly don't have to worry about me being any threat.

This comes to a whopping 111, pretty underwhelming I'd say.

Offhand at 10 meters.
FWB 603 with aperture sights.
Vogel green label pellets, 177 cal.

Off Hand ...... ?

Off Hand .... as in STANDING ???

Yikes !!!

I don't think they make a back stop big enough to make it safe for me to shoot off hand standing.

Are these the same targets ???

I used my FWB 300S aperture sights and Gamo wadcutter match pellets. I'm not in the loop on scoring air rifle targets and I think they are scored differently than my smallbore targets, but there it is. I shot two other targets with my Daisy 753 but the trigger was punishing me.

This is my submission.

Daisy Powerline 953 with Apertures front and rear
Crosman Premier Super Match .177
Shot at 10m.

Overall, not bad for working since yesterday and doing this between concalls.

That was fun. You guys want to do it again? Anybody wearing a jacket and what are your thoughts on that. I didn't wear mine for this because I assumed nobody else had one. What say you guys on jackets and doing this again?

Hey Charlotte... that sounds like a real good idea to me, doing it again for Feb. I've no objection to using a jacket, gloves or anything else within reason... just as long as it's shot standing offhand.

So, with that in mind... I've started the thread for Feb. No more than 1 target a week though and only the best one will count at the end of the month.

If you really want a challenge, shoot this while wearing a set of the Skechers Shape-Ups. It will force you to concentrate on your balance even more. I did that in the morning prior to shooting that one target. I had to get a pellet trap to practice in the garage.

I shot off-hand without a jacket. I do want to figure out how to attach a sling to the rifle. For me, I find it locks the rifle in tighter, even though it is not where near as heavy as the others.

Aziza.... I moved your entry to February since it was submitted after January had already been closed out. It's a good score too !!! You are allowed 1 submission per week although only the highest score will count. Don't try it standing on a skateboard balanced on a beach ball though.

This is almost the feeling while wearing those round bottom shoes.
