Do you do the taper job on take down bull barrels?

For that answer you prob. need to contact Randy.. this is a OLD thread and I'm pretty sure he won't see it.

Yes, there werenít any recent options so I picked this thread.

Chaser- thanks, Iíll contact Randy directly. Will have to try that Kidd vs CPC comparison myself. My first Ruger T barrel in SS didnít shoot noticeably better than a stock carbine.

About 5 years ago, I assembled a Ruger receiver, Kidd 20" SS barrel, Kidd bolt and drop in single stage trigger kit into an Altamont stock and wanted to get a direct comparison of how accurate the rifle was. A friend of mine shot a regular 50 yard bench rest match once a month and had several friends that had various 10/22's we could use for testing. The rifles tested consisted of my cobbled together Ruger/Kidd combination, a factory Ruger with the Hammer forged bull barrel, a Ruger LVT, that belongs to my wife and a factory built Volquartsen. We had one guy shoot all four rifles to try to eliminate the shooter variables and then we had each rifle shot by it's owner. The results were consistent in both test. Everything was shot at 50 yards, the bull barrel Ruger was the least accurate, the Ruger LVT was better than the factory bull, the Volquartsen was second best and my Ruger/Kidd home construction was the most accurate. This is only one test, shot on a very nice weather afternoon and each rifle was tested using the ammo it preferred.

I had one years ago (and yes, it's purdy!) and it shot just so-so. I sent it off to Randy at CPC for a set-back and re-chamber. And it became a MOA or better rifle barrel. Randy does good work! Wish I had kept it.

Mine would shoot some groups in the .3's at 50yds. My Kidd and GM barrels will do about half as small on best groups.

I'm pretty happy with mine. The fliers were me. This was 50 yards, 10 rounds. I can not remember the ammo.
I need to get this back out and shoot it some more.

Here is another brand of ammo, mix of 5 and 10 round groups, 50 yards.

This is not a factory 10-22 target model. I bought the barrel from shop ruger .com, and got the stock off ebay. Then put them all together with a early 90's vintage action. Bolt is factory but trued, and then the action was bedded by me with the gunsmither kit.

My Kidd barrel guns will shoot 10 shot groups smaller than best 5 shot groups with Ruger Target barrel I had. Now these were with a tuner which helps some. But Kidd barrels shoot without tuner very well.
