Winchester Mod 52 Wood Storage Box

Anyone aware of a Replica Box being made? If so, is it affordable? I would like one for the Winchester 52 B and one for a Remington Mod 37. I've tried looking and doing a goggle search, but am coming up empty. What I would also consider are plans fore building one myself. Any information would be appreciated. I think they were available from the Factory back in the day, but an original would probably cost more than a nice rifle.
Thanks
Jack

I have one that was made for a 40X I think it does fit my old 52. I could take a few pics and give you an idea of how it was made if you like. It looks home made (not by me).

Winchester did not offer a wood carrying box for the 52. The early target rifles came in a cardboard box. Later 52's, up to about the mid production D's came in a wood shipping crate, just like the model 70 targets. Later 52's came in a corrugated cardboard box with outer corrugated shipping sleeve.
There were a number of carrying cases made by outside vendors. The most popular by far was the Freeland. They were either a black leatherette covered wood hinged box or brown all-metal covered wood box. I also have a Red Head brand carrying case that was used for a 52B Bull gun. There were numerous other custom makers as well. It was also very common for the owner to make his own. Have owned probably 25 of these, some of dubious quality and some very nice depending on skill of owner.

To Seewin and all others that replied, Thanks for your input. Guess it was aftermarket boxes that i've seen pics of. I'm not a good woodworker, but i'm willing to give it a try. Will be interesting to see what i can cobble together.
Again thanks to all
Jack

Custom wood boxes................

I have had a couple of custom take down boxes built for my M/61 and M/63, I found an employee of the local woodworking supply store that moonlights building items like these. Mine are poplar with a black walnut lid, also had a couple built out of black walnut. The boxes feature finger joint construction, the woodworking guy built the basic box and I did the finish work adding brass piano hinge, latches and leather handle and straps. Feel free to e-mail me at: [email protected] and I'd be happy to send you some pics.

To Arlon, I sent you a private message requesting some pics of your rifle box. I included an email address. Hope you got the message. Would love to see
pics of your box, and maybe I can figure out how to make something for
myself.
Thanks
Jack

I have a model 37 box which while nice isn't anything fabulous but is nice to have, I could use a couple more. I don't have any 52 boxes but wish I did have a dozen, However I do have a Winchester marked model 75 box in Birds Eye Maple which is Fabulous and then some. Best yet I bought it on Ebay and it came with a set of front sight inserts and a set of Model 75 papers from a very early production 75, I am missing the Winchester scope but I have a Unertl 6x Hunter which fits in it nicely.

If I was going to construct a new box I would copy my Model 75 box, I posted it here around 5 years back if you want to search for it.

I have an actual factory shipping crate (pine box) for the Winchester 52. sorry to say it, but it is just cast about out in the garage.
