Thinking about a Beeman CO2 Rifle, are they loud?

I have a couple of old 22lr rifles that I shoot using CCI 22 CB long's and Aguila super colibri ammo. These rifles have between 24" and 26" barrels. The super colibri's are quiet but not real accurate -- the CCI CB's are accurate but can make a bit of noise in the 24" barreled rifle which is the one I prefer to shoot. I was looking on line and saw what looked like a nice Co2 Beeman QB78 and wondered if they make much noise. I have a Gamo break barrel with that noise suppressor but with all the stuff going on when I shoot it I can't tell if it's actually quiet. Another problem with the Break barrel is I'm a bit disabled and It's kind of difficult to work the action. I was hoping to get a nice Co2 pellet rifle that was not expensive to shoot in the back yard and not annoy the neighbors.

You are going to get less overall noise than the Gamo but still a muted crack from the escaping gas. Although I don't own either of the two air rifles mentioned the ones I own are similar. My CO2 Daisy is quieter than my Maccari tuned Diana 34 it's still loud enough to offend some close by.
All that out of the way let's get on to a possible solution. If you aren't going to use open sites a moderator can be added to a QB78 that will quiet it down considerably. I have a PCP rifle shooting a 22 cal 14.3 gr pellet at arount 820 FPS with a moderator and it sounds like the Hollywood silenced firearm. Pffft. That's it. A company called TKO22 makes them. A word of caution. Made sure the moderator you purchase cannot possibly fit any firearms.

Go to pyramydair.com and look at their listings for CO2 guns. They will have ratings for loudness (as do pretty much all of their listings for airguns of any type). That will give you a good idea of how loud the gun will be but it won't, obviously, give any indication of how neighbor-friendly it will be. That depends very heavily on how nosy/irritable your neighbors are. If you get along well with your neighbors and they aren't gun-phobic, a medium loud gun might not be an issue at all. If they jump at every sound and rant about gun control, you would probably be well-advised to shoot only inside your house or garage and not even let them know that you have guns of any sort. Wherever you shoot, the QB78 will be loads of fun!

Thanks to both of you for the Moderator info. I had no idea you could buy them -- thought it had to be bought fixed to the pellet rifle barrel. Obviously, I don't know much about these things. I did go to pyramydair.com and checked the noise level and it was a Number 4 medium high. That special moderator sounds like the answer.

The moderators are a touchy subject. You could get in trouble of you had one threaded. Some airgun forums limit the discussion of them by calling them Lead Dust Collectors.

I have one of these. It's about as quiet as you're gonna get in a Co2 gun. Not sure why Pyramyd lists it as medium loud, unless they're referring to when it's set up with the un-moderated pistol barrel...

https://www.pyramydair.com/s/m/Diana...Rifle_Kit/4613

Friend shot mine and bought one of each cal to shoot in his urban backyard. Unfortunately, now that Diana (Gun is made in China by SPA) put their brand on them, the moderator is glued to the rifle barrel. Many guys have removed them though, and they screw onto the pistol barrel after you remove the thread protector.

Also, Diana does not ship it with a magazine. Have to buy it from Pyramyd separately for $20. It's the "Stormrider" mag...

Great little guns. Very accurate, reasonably powerful and weigh next to nothing.

If you're interested in the QB78 (loud without a moderator), you might check out the new Beeman QB II repeater. It comes with a magazine and is a more robust gun than the one shown above.

Look into a Weihrauch Hw30 or the same gun rebranded as a Beeman R7. It's a break barrel, its very quiet for a springer without a moderator. A 10 yo girl could cock it and they're ridiculously accurate out to 30 yards. No problem hitting soda cans at 50 yards. I like them so much I have two. One with peep sights and another with a scope. I have several firearms and several quality air guns. The Hw30s are my favorite of them ALL. I shoot my Hw30s for hours on end and my first one has tens of thousands of rounds through it. I did replace one mainspring. Krale in the Netherlands has them the cheapest even after international shipping. I got my last one delivered to NY in two days. They are excellent to deal with. If noise is a real issue Airguns of Arizona has a Hw30 Laminate urban pro combo. A gorgeous set up with a beautiful laminate stock, scope and silencer but more money obviously. Research the rife and you will find many people as passionate about them as I am. It may be more money initially but you'll end up saving a substantial amount because co2 cartridges are not cheap and you will need them forever. Pm me if you need more information.

Yep. R7 is a beautiful gun. I've had one for ~25 years. Easy to shoot all day and has that great Rekord trigger. Little twangy out of the box but a Maccari spring guide fixed that.

R7 is a tack driver. This is a typical target shot at 15 yds indoors. Five shots. Scope is Nikon 3-9 EFR.

My Sheridan CO2 in .22 cal will do almost as well with a bit more noise. Group is more of a cluster.

Shrouded Barrels

If you are interested in a Crosman 22xx, check out BNM Custom. They make shrouds for the Crosman series. Turn the thin barrel into a "bull barrel" with internal baffles. I have several, but never had the chance to get them installed.

I don't have the Beeman branded version, but do own 2 of the standard QB78's I got from Archers.

They are not too loud, but are louder then say a Umerex Fusion (same basic thing again)...I would say the hammerli 850 is a bit louder

Of my two QB's I have one stock and one that is hot rod a bit. Both shoot fantastic.

If you are wanting super quiet I would look at the umerex....the one I own is going on 7-8 years....has to be at least that old and it really an accurate, and handy little thing, no iron sights however.

From your stated use, back yard and no one know what you are doing, and add to that the difficulty in cocking or pumping, really look at that little fusion, they are very inexpensive, shoot really well inside of 25yards and really are as close to no noise as you are likely to get.
