Marlin 39A sight hood

Need some information . I have 2, 39A rifles both equipped with steel side mount lyman sights , with Marbles 1/16 inch beads . Has anyone found an aftermarket sight hood that is larger diameter that will fit the marlin medium width ramp . Have thought about the Lyman 17 sight etc , but feel it is overkill on a hunting / plinking rifle . Has anyone tried Rifle Masterpiece , Remington or other type hoods on the ramp ? Any input will be appreciated .

I've seen Winchester sight hoods used on 39A's. They look to be about the same size as the older Marlin hood so maybe not what you're looking for.

On my 39A, I went with Lyman 17A front sights.

Thought hard about the Lyman but seems as though having a dovetail cut in the barrel is the best route . Went to the local smith and looked thru the junk drawer this morning . Looks like with very little modification a hood from K98 Mauser will really open up the field of view and should be a good fix. Thanks for the replies , will post picture of finished product when done . The k98 hood should be about the same if not a little larger than the Lyman 17 . Thanks again !

Thumbs up NECG

Check out NECG's catalog . As I recall I modified one of their hoods to open up the sight picture on my 39 Mountie. Used a steel hose clamp to squeeze it down to where it was snug on the ramp.

Thanks for the tip . While the Mauser 98 hood does fit and lock it sure is not as nice looking as the NECG basic . Those are very nice , they had blanks as well for custom cutting . Will just have to order one . Cheers WJR
