My Better Than Average 10 22 Clone

Recently got back into 22 rf shooting. As I didn't have a 10 22 of any type I wanted something a bit better than average without breaking the bank. I found this site and it was very helpful with all the information, and even PM'ed Chaser for some personal guidance.

What I ended up with is as follows:

Brownells STD receiver, went this way in the event I may want a 20 moa or 30 moa rail in the future

Ruger receiver kit from Brownells, bolt and charging handle, the bolt has the tension pin firing pin limiter installed

KIDD 18" SS 920 barrel

Ruger BX trigger, came out of the package at 1 lb 15 oz, and with a little polishing is at 1 3/4lb

UTG scope rail

Magpul X 22 stock, have added a .50 comb since pics for better stock weld

Voquartson stock screw

Nylon buffer

I mounted a Hawke Vantage 3-9X40 AO scope with mil dots in Weaver medium Quad Loc rings as its general purpose sight system that didn't have a home. I have a Vortex Venom 3 moa that will go on if I decide to shoot some steel events.

Shooting was done as I could, and most days conditions were not the best, but every now and then they settled down and became a bit more consistent.

After shooting some groups with the 9 power scope, I wanted to see just how good this setup would group, so a Leupold M8-24X was mounted on top in some high rings I had in stock.

Attached as some pics of the rifle and some of the groups I have shot since completion.

In the end, I'm very satisfied with my clone and can't wait to try some other ammo as it becomes available.

My goto ammo is CCI SV, and the current case I have is very good, ES is 17 fps out of my RPR rf. I have shot some RWS Target and PMC Target I have had since the late '80's when I shot silhouette, as well as some RWS Rifle Match. No need in getting excited over the groups they shot as these lot numbers can't be duplicated, but suffice to say the target loads shot very similar groups to the CCI SV, except for the Rifle Match which was similar to the SK Pistol Match.

The Groups with the SK Pistol Match were shot with ammo a buddy gave me to try. I think I like it!

Nice looking rig. It looks like it's going to be a shooter too. Good luck.

Had it out this morning for a bit. Conditions were not too bad. I only shot it off the bench at 50 yds on the 1/4" plate on the KYL rack. 30 shots down range, 28 hits! One that missed was my fault, didn't aim where the plate was, hard to see that 1/4" under 9X as the xhair covers the plate, the other was a wind shift, just right off the plate. I did run the last 19 though.

This appears to shoot so well I may have to rethink my scope choice. Might just have to put a 6-24 on it so I don't have to keep swapping scopes.

It's hard for me to even think folks shoot seriously with less than 14x.. ya can't hit what ya can't aim small with.. or even see well.
