Congrats I just got back from Eastern Oregon watching my Son and his friends shooting Sage Rats. We have 204,223,22-250,243,25-06 etc. rifles. But most of the time they are shooting 17HMR.

Rescoped!

Although the Sightron is a nice scope, no AO. So since I shoot at 50 yards I thought Id swap scopes and put this Bushnell A17 on

Let us know how you like the scope...I'm thinking about picking up the A22 version for my nephew's savage mark II.

Nice choice of caliber, great for varmints cause the bullet is small and accurate.

I buy my ammo at Walmart, find they have the cheapest prices.

As a late adopter of the 17 hmr I can tell you it's best as a varmint cartridge within 150 yards and really 130. It's nice if you collect rimfires to have a variety of chamberings. One 22 LR is about as good as the next as far as usefulness. I have the mach 2, 17 hmr, 22LR and 22 Mag rifles. Mach 2 and 17 hmr are my go to hunting guns and 22 LR my go to plinking caliber due to price. The 22 mag would be my choice for larger animals or as a do all rimfire caliber where range limits and accuracy are not as important. I find the 17 grain Vmax is about as good as anything but the lead free 15.5NTX also shoots well. You will probably see a lot of 1/2inch groups or better at 50 with that gun. Ruger 17s shoot! rc
