I know, right? Thats like a 150' room or one long arse hallway in one's 'castle' with enough time to unlock the safe and load up the sniper rifle.

How about a nice Ithaca 37 Featherlight Deer Slayer.

Actually the barrel is too long for in the house but when I found it in a local Pawn shop it just called out to me.

Gerald, nice looking 37. My brother had a Featherlight in 16ga. that he let me use through high school. The pheasants trembled in fear for that gun.

On the way home from the range today I stopped by Cabela's/Bass Pro. The had a Featherlite 20ga. riot gun in the Gun library, 18" barrel and the wood wasn't even beat to heck. I didn't look at the price assuming they were overcharging but it was a nice specimen.

I've been contemplating picking up a Mossberg Shockwave in 20ga. I'd also consider a side by side coach gun.

Every gun has its purposes and advantages. That said, I find it near impossible to improve upon older designs. More modern guns are full of MIM parts, polymer, and IMO just feel loose and sloppy. It is SO hard to one up a Stevens 520 or 620. My personal favorite is a Winchester Model 12. Six shots of 12 gauge, adjustable sleeve for potential wear, it can handle any type of shell out there, and will outlive all of us living today. At worst you will have to buy a firing pin or an extractor/spring.

Think about it, a brand new Mossberg 500 will need replacement parts before a 60+ year old Winchester in most cases. I have a 98 year old Model 12 that doesn't have even one spring replaced. The quality of gun and price point can't be beat. If you are *WILLING* to take the time to actually LEARN the Model 12, you can replace any and everything and will appreciate the superiority of the design over other pump shotguns.

I shouldn't be giving away my secrets but look seriously at the recent gun shows. Finally, the Model 12's prices have been going DOWN. Way lower than even 870's. The last weekends gun show I found consistently Model 12's less than 870 Express models. I never thought the day would come. It's bittersweet. I can't buy them all, so if you can get one for a good price, for goodness sake, GET IT! I will help you to clean it up just because I love the gun so much.
