What would be the best variable power to choose?
Leupold 3-9 EFR if you're looking for light weight, clear glass, and great parallax-free effective range.

Leupold 6.5-20x EFR if you prefer more magnification. Same benefits.

The Tikka is a very modern gun compared to CZ's, low short bolt throw, modular stock and precision cnc manufactuerering. Accuracy is on par with any high end 17, at the bench mine groups as well as a my Quad and Anschutz sporters, expect sub moa groups at 100m with good ammunition. Normally I'm a Leupold guy but for a hunting rifle their overkill, recently I bought a Bushnell and am really impressed with the quality for an inexpensive scope.

With the holidays on I have had more time to ponder my next toy. I am very partial to lever actions and already have a Marlin 39a for a .22lr but wanted something with a little more range for squirrel and plinking. I like the 17 but the 22 mag in a Henry Octagon is calling my name too. This being said I see Henry has the same rifle in a .17 also.

I will be putting a scope on the rifle regardless of action but what are the thoughts on going 22 mag or giving the .17 a try in a Henry? Part of me says go lever for the 22 mag and bolt for 17 but still undecided, perhaps lever for both calibers......

I have the savage bolt and love it. Shooting target at 100 and 150 yards- fantastic.
Got the semi and it jams 90% of the time with the rotary mags. SHIFTED TO USING THE 25 ROUND BANANA MAGS- PERFECT EVERY TIME!!!! And the semi groups as wella s the bolt. I AM IN LOVE!
