Finally put a new scope on my 597. I replaced the Burris with a Bushnell AR rimfire scope. Nice little ten shot group I fired while dialing it in. Probably should have gone with lower rings, but it didn't require too much adjustment.

597 chopped

Shortened to 16.5 inche.
I was going to post a photo but it doesn't seem to work. Either that or I can't figure out why I select a file, hit upload and nothing happens. Oh well.

Took my 597 out to the range. It was kind of windy, but I got a few shots off. Ducks Unlimited edition HB model, DNZ scope mount, Sweet 22 scope. I polished the botton of the bolt. Next upgrade is the VQ target hammer to lighten the trigger. After that possibly an MCarbo hammer spring, we'll see how much the hammer improves the trigger pull.

My first 597-22. It was the first Remington semi-auto to qualify for the SuperStock 1/4" [email protected]
It started as plastic stock repainted w the following mods: floated barrel, polished internals, stoned trigger, recrowned, thicker recoil pad, and a mod charging handle. 6X24 Tasco mildot on top.
It has morphed into a VQ barrel, Boyd stock, with a Weaver Classic 6-24 w Varminter Reticle scope.

Just curious, how does that heavy barrel shoot? I really like the look of bull barrels, but I have no reason to switch because mine is already a shooter with the skinny barrel.

Not sure how the heavy barrel shoots, but the factory barrel is extremely accurate out of the box. I believe it may be one of THE most accurate .22's from the factory.

I have an upgraded trigger and volquartsen extractor (the extractor is the best upgrade money can buy for these), and I feel like it's all I ever need. I was able hit a 6" plate over 225 yards away with mine and felt that was pretty good for a factory barrel.

Current mods-
VQ hammer and extractor
Free floated barrel (sanded channel)
Aluminum tape bedded the receiver
Old school cheek riser build up
Slip on recoil pad for LOP
Vortex Diamondback Tactical FFP 6-24x50 in Warne rings
Harris bipod

If I can get the accuracy I want and the new Keep Shooting mags allow for 10 rounds reliably I'll upgrade to a Boyd's AT One stock in the future.

This is a factory barrel and it a fine shooter! Mcarbo spring & hammer on this one. The Bushnell AR scopes get 3 thumbs up! Great value too.
