Problem is he's not really a rimfire guy. Don't get me wrong, he enjoys shooting .22s but he's not as enthusiastic about them as we are. Our family owned/ran a large outdoor range for many years in the NW Chicago suburbs. One year we received a shipment of MAS .22 trainers. He bought one and sporterized it. I remember one New Years day was unusually warm for that part of the country. We met at our 100 yard range and enjoyed shooting the MAS offhand at a small steel plate enjoying one of the only days of the year the range was closed to the public. Didn't seem like much at the time but that was a New Years day I'll always remember.

That's truly nice there! I have a plank of walnut with some really nice grain that I wouldn't want checkered because the grain wouldn't show. Maybe I'll have it done after all, if I press it into service as a stock.

Awesome! It amazes me how talented some people are at wood and metalwork. I can't think of a more perfect way to showcase it than on a gun. The checkering work alone is so far above anything I could ever learn to do, then there's the metalwork and the fitment of the wood and metal. It fascinates me because I can barely assemble a Mr. Potato Head....
